In the wake of the random shootings on Jan. 8 in a Tucson shopping center by Jared Lee Loughner, which left six people dead and 19 wounded, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, many Australians are expressing their incredulity that once again—after yet another mass gun massacre in the U.S.—the American polity seems not to have learned the lessons that even a conservative government like John Howard’s in 1996 was quick to act upon.

"even a conservative government like John Howard’s" (howard=bloomberg, kirk, the 5 northeast anti gun repubiks, giuliani, etc.)
Freedom is a conservative value, gun control is anti-Freedom. The dems embraced gc with a slight waffling toward freedom (Reid, Richardson and supposed 'pro gun' Dems) while the cons embraced freedom with a slight waffling toward gc (Kirk, bloomberg, giuliani, and now cheney with his anti hi cap comment). |

Hold on to your hat!
Robert A. Levy, who served as co-counsel in the landmark 2008 Supreme Court case that established a Second Amendment right to bear arms, said there was no reason the court’s decision in that case should apply to the purchase of high-capacity gun magazines.
“I don’t see any constitutional bar to regulating high-capacity magazines,” Levy said in an interview with NBC. “Justice (Antonin) Scalia made it quite clear some regulations are permitted. The Second Amendment is not absolute.”
Told you so!

A policeman in Australia was seriously injured by gang members who ambushed him with a machete and a cricket bat. He said if he had had his pistol, which he had left in his car, it would have made matters worse. Yeah, that's much better. And the man who inspired "Crocodile Dundee" is still dead for not turning in a simple shotgun. |
