"The Oregonian's position on upcoming federal legislation to grant legal immunity to the firearms industry is inaccurate to the point I say, 'Shame on you, Mr. Editor' ('Don't bulletproof the gun industry,' April 13). The blatant, lightning-rod terminology will surely get all those Blue Meanies in Multnomah County riled up."
"You say that 'tens of thousands of people die annually from gunshot wounds.' But knee-jerk reactions to that fact are an example of simplistic thinking. They may prove politically expedient, resulting in more laws in the short term, but they will cause greater carnage later. Fact: In Great Britain and Australia, violent crime has risen dramatically since their gun bans went into effect, especially crimes against the elderly -- crimes like home invasion, aggravated assault and murder." |
