FULL TEXT BELOW:
A sixth-grader in Alvin accidentally shot himself in the leg today while apparently playing with his father's pistol while in class.
Nobody else was hurt.
Officials say the eleven-year-old boy at Passmore Elementary School suffered minor injuries, was treated and then turned over to his parents.
Superintendent Greg Smith says it appears the .22 caliber pistol belongs to the boy's father and the child had it in his pocket.
Smith says the boy may be assigned to an alternative school.
No criminal charges were immediately filed. |

If Dad's defensive firearm had been carried on his person where it belongs, this tragedy would never had happened. If Junior had seen Dad carrying, he would've learned proper respect for defensive firearms and this tragedy would never had happened. Molon Labe! |

"Smith says the boy may be assigned to an alternative school."
What for?
I'll tell you. Not being quite as easy to control as they were hoping. It's not because he's a bad kid or did something really wrong. It's not because he's an ongoing problem.
It's because they told him "guns are bad" and he knew they were wrong. |

This is what one may expect from an untrained 11 year old.
When my sons were 11, they were shooting .357 mag revolvers, and .45 auto pistols. They didn't feel a need to take them to school, and to this date they haven't shot themselves, or anyone else.
Well, they've shot a few insurgents in Iraq, but nothing accidental. |

TO REMEMBER |
| We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. — Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53 |
