FULL TEXT BELOW:
Massachusetts law enforcement officers will get 240,000 gun locks to distribute free to gun owners under a federal program officials announced Thursday.
The distribution is part of a $50 million national program, called Project Childsafe, being funded by the U.S. Department of Justice and administered by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, an industry trade group.
Lori O'Connell, a spokeswoman for the program, said the cable locks for both large and small bore weapons, will be handed out "no questions asked" by officers.
It is illegal for a dealer to sell a handgun or large capacity rife or shotgun in Massachusetts without a safety lock.
