"Governor Napolitano today signed into law a bill to strengthen Arizonans' rights to claim self-defense and to use force against intruders."
"The bill was supported by the National Rifle Association and opposed by prosecutors."
"It imposes a new burden of proof on prosecutors to demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt that a defendant's self-defense claim was unfounded."
"It also implants the so-called 'castle doctrine' in Arizona law to give a person the right to use force in a home or vehicle ..."
"The self-defense portion of the bill stirred the most controversy."
"Supporters argued that current law unfairly requires a person to effectively admit to a crime and then prove they had justification." ... |

Thanks Janet!
Now, I'm again glad to live in Arizona!

Free at last! And living in a TRUE Constitutional state!
Attention: ALL criminal's. Would strongly advise that you pursue a different living! |

| Yes, she did sign SB 1145, she also vetoed the Emergency Protection Act. I think that maybe she will declare an Emergency and then try to confiscate all Legally owned firearms in Arizona. Never underestimate your enemies, and always expect the unexpected, she is a Democrat after all. And we all know what they want, don't we Boys and Girls????? |

I seriously doubt it is retroactive. Too bad. |

Well well well. Looks like Arizona is back on the list of desirable places to move to. Seriously had considered moving to Payson but saw the state starting a move to the left and abandoned the idea. Attributed the leftward move to kalif migrants to Phoenix & Scottsdale.
You see, I plan on living free, regardless of the law. However it would be nice to know the law is on my side. |

| Well, well, well. Looks like I was wrong. I would have bet that she would have vetoed it. I didn't see the vote tally in the article but it could have been because there were more than enough votes to over ride any veto anyway. Besides, she's running for re-election. Cops and prosecutors alone can't get her re-elected. |

As long as McCain is still an Arizona Senator, do not expect too much movement back to the RIGHT. Until they replace him with someone with a RIGHT leaning voting record, Arizona is still sketchy when it comes to freedoms. Just remember McCain-Feingold. |

| Let me see if I understand this correctly. AZ passed a bill and the Governor signed it into law. I thought we already had a constitutional right to defend ourselves. I was sure that the people’s right to keep and bear arms was not to be infringed. I am lost in this whole debate. The law establishes a right we already have? |

| I rated the Sweeney Challenge about even because I lost some rather valuable guns in a burglary. Otherwise the cops would have won. |

Thomas Paine -Yeah we already had a law alright. But, no one across the country seems to understand it fully. Only two states come even close, (Alaska & Vermont).
What this new AZ law does is keep the defender from being raked over the coals after defending. And puts the burden of proof back upon the state.
As indicated above - criminal's beware! This is your ONLY warning... |
