I wonder if they'll tell us if someone gets whacked by somebody whose gun was "liberated" and turned in? Can just see it now: Gang banger kills grandmother who turned in his gun.

Man commits murder, murderer turns gun in to, "Gun buy back program". Evidence lost for ever............

Ah yes, no questions asked, no asking if the person dropping off the gun legally owns it. Steal from Dear Old Dad or Grandad, steal a family heirloom, and be rewarded for it. I'd laugh if somebody drops off some cop's issued weapon.
