"A Brentwood street gang member stood about two feet in front of another man early Wednesday, pointed a handgun at the man's head, said "I'm going to kill you," and fired one shot, striking the man in the forehead, police said."

"But amazingly, the victim wasn't seriously injured."

"Agner Sandoval, 28, of 311 Hancock St., a member of the Latin Kings street gang, was charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal use of a firearm, Suffolk County police said. Police withheld the name of the victim, a 20-year-old Brentwood man who was treated and released at an unnamed local hospital." ...

"It's incredible that someone could be shot at such close range with that caliber weapon and not be dead or seriously injured," said Third Squad Det. Lt. Matt Sullivan.

10 to 1 odds it was a .25 ACP.

Yep, this is why firearms instructors strongly advise shooting low in the abdomen or pelvis with the 1st shot, and working up from there. The head makes a distinctly poor target.

Besides, for some of the feral critters out there, the head is a non-vital zone.

Almost assuredly a skimming hit for it not to be considered serious injury. A shot under an eye isn't "lethal", but it darn sure is serious. A line of cut flesh on the side of your head is not lethal or serious.

20-25 years ago a bank robber hit a cop square in the forehead. The slug (25ACP) just flattened out against his skull without penetrating. It was at a Michigan National Bank branch outside Lansing, MI.

"A line of cut flesh along the skull is not lethal or serious."

Ahem, maybe not lethal, but the are nerves in the face and along the side of the skull and if the bullet severs them it IS serious.

Personally, I would consider any bullet wound serious, there's always possiblity of septic shock and blood poisoning, if not infection.

Must have been the typical thick headed New York liberal.

And the perp thought: "Ohhhhhhh, sh*t."

Says a lot about the skulls of Mishygan cops.

This reminds me of a story relayed by Jeff Cooper. He had a conversation with a female FBI agent.

She had asked his opinion about her carrying a pipsqueak mouse-gun.

His advice went something like this:

“If you feel better by carrying it, by all means, do so. But don’t load it. Because if you load it, and you actually shoot someone, and they notice, they are likely to become very, very angry.

Robert Ruark wrote a book on hunting big game entitled “Use Enough Gun.”

The same certainly holds true for handguns.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government that is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. — JAMES MADISON
