"In a letter faxed today to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office, the trade association representing the firearm industry officially requested a seat at the table at tomorrow's national summit on illegal guns organized by Bloomberg and Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston."

"Lawrence G. Keane, who signed the letter on behalf of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), said the industry shares the mayors' concerns about further reducing crime by keeping guns out of the hands of criminals."

"'Our industry has developed programs that are working to reduce criminal misuse of firearms, as well as reduce firearms accidents. We would welcome the opportunity to educate mayors about these programs ...'" ...

Love their move...Fox in the hen house. If they turn down the offer then how sincere are they about crime vs. gun grabbing?

A little like me going to a naacp meeting.

Comment by: tkampert@cox.net (4/25/2006)
I'd really be surprised if they were allowed to participate. Bloomingidiot will find some reason the exclude them. He doesn't want any of the other Mayors to hear anything other than HIS rants.

Comment by: LEE2MCGEE@AOL.COM (4/25/2006)
Be careful what you wish for. The NSSF has been playing footsie with the feds in this unconstitutional Operation Safe Neighborhoods federal program - come get a free (taxpayer funded) gun lock. The idealists at the NSSF think they can tail the dragon and just violate the Constitution a little bit. This will come back to bite us all in the butt.

Lee-
You just shot a perfect score. My thought on this development was not, "Yee-haw! We got us a mole in their inner circle", but rather, BOHICA.

Looks like a perfect opportunity for just a little "reasonable cooperation" from the industry, adding another brick in the new amerikan prison.

I-4-1 am all for law-abiding citizens not involved in ANY criminal activity 2 keep & bear arms 4 hunting, target practice, legal gun-related work, & home self-defense. However, I think some of y'all are totally missing the point about the NYC Gun Summit at Gracie Mansion today. You really need 2 check out what da' "urban-thuggies" are doing with guns these days. It has NOTHING 2 do with restricting YER' rights to bear arms just bonafide bad-guys! How do you verify that? Well if yer' packin' heat while yer' on da' street u' better have yer' permit sheet. That's all the summit is about... ideas on how to enforce that & safely. No consp theory to take yer' guns away. BTW FWIW - NAACP created, staffed by, and helps whites 2 so wats-yer-pernt?

"...if yer' packin' heat while yer' on da' street u' better have yer' permit sheet..."

May I exercise my rights, Sir? Please may I?

Hmm... sounds more like the usual foot in the door play to me.

Comment by: dogone (4/25/2006)
Hey homer,

If you think that is all Mr. Bloomingidiot wants out of this you need a reality check. Tracing weapons and then filing lawsuits on manufactures is not just going after street thugs. Look at his past statments and you get a good idea of what Mr. Bloomingidiot is up too.

Comment by: colt45 (4/25/2006)
The commie-pinko NYC media are gleefully reporting every detail of this meeting.

They are having so much fun with this they're probably wetting themselves.

Uhh... homer, I hope that there's satire, buddy!

Nope... I'm not speaking to Bloomberg's hidden agenda, if any. I don't believe in the "foot in da' door" cause-n-effect scenario as these mayors IMHO are NOT the slimey politico conspirators of today. Dez' guys, and gals, are KNEE-JERK reacting to a MAJOR INNER-CITY CRISIS IMO you guys fail to see. Bloomberg, idiot or not, is having the same crisis problem. It a'int about keepin' yer' gatz' boyz, its about gettin' dem' away from the street trash who don't obey the law like you do! Just go to a urban hospital emergency room where ders' a lil' urban girl wid' multiple 9MM exit wounds and tell me you want dez' frickin' nutz packin' like you do! Somethin' besides sittin' on yer' thumbs is needed here guys! Part of the problem or the solution?

"Truth, no less than decency, requires that the event in every case should be supposed to depend on the sentiments and sanction of their COMMON CONSTITUENTS." - James Madison, Federalist No. 46

Did anybody here give 'sanction' to this meeting? I know I didn't.

"They would contain (BOR) various exceptions to POWERS NOT GRANTED; and, on this very account, WOULD AFFORD A COLORABLE PRETEXT TO CLAIM MORE THAN WERE. For why declare that things SHALL NOT be done which there is NO POWER TO DO? Why, FOR INSTANCE, should it be said that the LIBERTY of the press, (& 2nd Amend.), SHALL NOT be RESTRAINED, WHEN NO POWER IS GIVEN BY WHICH RESTRICTIONS MAY BE IMPOSED"? - Alexander Hamilton, Federalist #84

They NEVER had 'power' to begin with!

Comment by: paulh@freedom.net (4/25/2006)
Homer,
Maybe this summit should be about how to keep these "thugs" in the pokey instead of how to infringe on an uninfringable Constitutionally protected right! There are already more then enough laws on the books to deal with criminals that break the law. It's the 'deal making' criminal justice system that needs more regulation!!

Comment by: homersilliad720-odysseus@yahoo.com (4/25/2006)
Let me put it this way... I got a dog in this fight as I am eyeballin' my particular mayor who is there right now. I know why he's there and it ain't got nuttin' to do with yer' Bloomingidiot's agenda. I got punks&thugs droppin' other punks&thugs (and cops) right and left here and I see body bags being set up for this summer for lil' kids. I'm tellin' u' this is a royal Charlie-Foxtrot epidemic! Yep' real BOHICA from stolen Glocks and StreetSweepers! Why y'all think it's a pretense to "de-gat" you I just don't get. It's like this... instead of sending militiamen to the Mexican border to plink chicanos coming over da' fence, try doing something about the urban American gun crisis... "Lead, follow, or get the %$%$ out of the way" - Sempri Fi!

Comment by: homersilliad720-odysseus@yahoo.com (4/25/2006)
Yer' absolutley right PAUL! But it's you guys who are trying to say the summit is about sumtin' else! I gaurantee you no mayor will arrive in black helos and no detention camps will be schemed and plotted at this meeting. I can almost assure you that whatever they decide it will be to protect you and your family the next time you visit a big American city. As unless you and your family wear full body Kevlar the next time you visit LA, NY, Boston, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, etc. you ain't safe EVEN if you are packin' too. IMO these guys/gals have good intentions. The NSSF & NRA needs to stand-down and let these mayors do their ELECTED jobs w/o fear of being sniped by them if they come up with good new ideas that DONT involve de-gatin' you...

Comment by: info@GunShowOnTheNet.com (4/25/2006)
The Framers provided the answer long ago. An armed populace is the best deterent to ANYONE intent upon breaking the law.

Many of People became lazy or afraid and turned to gov. to give protection it's NOT empowered to give! Gov's. job is to provide for the 'Common Defense'.

This is how it's intended to be;

"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from ANY who might attempt to ABUSE them, which would include their OWN GOVERNMENT.”

- George Washington - Speech of Jan. 7, 1790,
in the Boston Independent Chronicle, Jan. 14, 1790

That is the answer! Government intervention is NOT.

Ermmm... hey INFO? I agree with you... I am a friend not a foe. I'm just sticking to the forum topic about Larry from NSSF trying to crash the mayor's meeting today at Gracie Mansion in NYC. Why? Nobody there is trying to take away YOUR rights. This is about NEW IDEAS to take away the rights for urban criminals, crack-dealers, pimps, peer-pressured minors, and 'thugs with a petty-beef' to bear arms not loyal American citizens like you and me! I'm sure your not for their rights are you? And these mayors were ELECTED by the people - that includes Bloomingidiot too.

If anybody is a commie-pinko it's the street trash who have no desire to uphold the const. nor even your right to even breath! Think about it!

Not attacking you. Trying to show the INTENDED SOLUTION.

"It's the misfortune of all Countries, that they sometimes lie under a unhappy necessity to defend themselves by Arms against the ambition of their Governors, and to fight for what's their own. If those in government are heedless of reason, the people must patiently submit to Bondage, or stand upon their own Defence; which if they are enabled to do, they shall never be put upon it, but their Swords may grow rusty in their hands; for that Nation is surest to live in Peace, that is most capable of making War; and a Man that hath a Sword by his side, shall have least occasion to make use of it."

- John Trenchard and Walter Moyle, Authors known as 'Cato' in early 1700's

LAZY COWARDS??? Come on INFO now that was a low blow! No one can call these mayors LAZY COWARDS. They are NOT sitting on their thumbs sniping and taking cheap-shots at people with new ideas. The enemy today is NOT these mayors! The enemy is the lil' s%$^%s that tries to sell crack to yer' kid and has an illegal stolen Berreta or Glock in his baggie jeans belt. Our inner-city cops are UNDER siege and are takin' automatic fire from lil' s%$^%s no older than yer' frickin' socks in yer' sock drawer! The crack-dealers (BTW of all races) have declared war on American society and all you can do is grouse about ancient laws that you think these good mayors are usurping... get out of the way gunny we need space for the body bags!

Comment by: info@GunShowOnTheNet.com (4/25/2006)
Our nation is in the state it is in because of 'summit's' like these. Gov. hasn't got it right in a couple hundred years. In fact, they are the ones responsible for the fix we are in. Does it follow to reason that further meddling by them is going to fix it? Think not!

It is time for We The People to stand up on our own hind feet and resume exercising our Rightfull Authority. Gov. has PROVEN itself as miserably ineffective. They are power hungry control freaks. And we've let them go WAY beyond the INTENDED LIMITS IMPOSED on them.

We The People need to roll up our sleeves and get back to defending OUR OWN LIBERTY. Gov. is OBVIOUSLY not up to the task.

Has anything gotten better since they started meddling? No, it's gotten worse.

INFO,
I know your not attacking me. I'm just trying to point out that NSSF said:

"Lawrence G. Keane, who signed the letter on behalf of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), said the industry shares the mayors' concerns about further reducing crime by keeping guns out of the hands of criminals."

I don't see NSSF, the NRA, or anybody else stepping up to "sharing the mayors' concerns". Where is the moral outrage over kids catchin' the golden BB? Where are those so-called NSSF suggestions? Was Larry just going to disrupt the meeting with obstuse invectives with arcane references to ancient dead guys or really be part of the solution? I don't see anybody from the pro-gun lobby stepping up to lead or be part of the solution...

This meeting has nothing to do with firearms per se but is a way at changing America.
Far more people are hurt or killed with the misuse of auto that it's a night and day difference.
However controlling the people so that government has nothing to fear from the people doesn't apply to autos.
Again, expose the people who are behind the anti-gun movement for who and what they are. The Hate America First people. These people have fingerprints of all sorts of Marxist agenda and can be exposed for who and what they really are all about. Stop debating them and shine light on how different they are the normal Americans.

"Far more people are hurt or killed with the misuse of auto..."

[Game show buzzer] boinggggg! Sorry AVGJOE that is the wrong answer... Usaully only the drivers and passengers are killed or hurt in a car crash. The GUN CRISIS these mayors are meeting about involves whole groups of kids getting whacked by the infamous "STREET SWEEPER" a popular urban shotgun. They call it a "sweeper" for a reason... it makes the body count climb "hella" fast... And let's not forget Ak-47's... You are comparing apples to oranges here Joe... You need to watch the news more or Google more...

Comment by: lwarner11-at-hotmail-dot-com (4/25/2006)
I challenge Homer~ to name one (1) shooter in New York in the last 12 months who has been caught killing people with a Street Sweeper.

Just one.

And if you can relay this information without using 13-year-old-children's computer chatspeak, it would be deeply appreciated.

My point here is that unsupported allegations are worthless. Unless you can cite substantive sources, we don't accept it. Not from the anti's, and not from you.

Have a nice day, "dude."

Comment by: info@GunShowOnTheNet.com (4/25/2006)
The StreetSweeper and cousin Stryker haven't been allowed in to this country for years. And one of them isn't even made anymore. If the other is coming in, it's an importation issue.

And as lwarner11 pointed out. Show proof of this epidemic. AK-47's have been used in only a handfull of crimes.

Governments are responsible for far more deaths than ANY other source.

Comment by: dogone (4/25/2006)
homer,

Since you think these mayors are just trying to "get the bad guys" can you name one thing or law that they could come up with that will make the thugs say, "oh no, I can't do that now, the mayors made that law and it's illegal"? That's the point. Nothing that comes from this mayor EVER does anything but hurt the law abiding gun owners and he wants FEDERAL legislation for the country. In other words HE IS PART OF THE PROBLEM. Let 2nd A mean what it says and this mayor get out of the way and the problem YOU speak of will be GONE.

Comment by: rennaissance33man@yahoo.com (4/25/2006)
Homer,
Please do me a favor and go back to the land of your ancestors. My ancestors moved here to get away from this kind of crap. You claim to want change, but then you want the current powers to continue along a course of action that has proven ineffective.

I weep for any and all INNOCENTS who end up in the line of fire. However, the ONLY proven way to do this is by arming the entire bloody populace.

This has been proven to work historically. If the populace in the urban areas these punks live in and trash were to stand up and tell them to stop or suffer the consequences, it would end. However, they need to be on an equal footing, meaning armed or they will be ignored.

Comment by: rennaissance33man@yahoo.com (4/25/2006)
Homer,
Oh, and by the way. In America, under our Constitution the only people not allowed to keep and bear arms are those imprisoned or dead. If someone can not be trusted with arms then they should be in one of those two states.

Hommer,

If these clowns are effective is getting laws passed that say I can only buy one gun or handgun or BB gun a month they RESTRICTED MY RIGHTS you simple jerk.

Comment by: BlamingGunOwners (4/25/2006)
These mayors of the crime-ridden big cities are looking for a scapegoat for the crime problem. They have decided that the problem is NOT caused by several generations of crappy "public" education, welfare dependency and drug addiction...nope. The problem is the lack of gun control in places like Virginia, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Vermont, etc. The fact is, if guns were the problem, rural communities would be hotbeds of criminal activity and mayhem, but they are far safer than ANY of the "gun free" cities where only the cops and the hardcore criminals have guns. Their policies are a dismal failure, and the blood of the innocent is on their hands, not the gun manufaturers. Guns SAVE LIVES!!

Comment by: ppmann@comcast.net (4/25/2006)
I'm having a bit of trouble understanding what Homer is trying to say, but it sounds like the same emotional appeal gun banners have been using since day one: "We're not worried about you, but do you really want all those crazy [fill in minority group of choice] carrying guns?"

The dirty little secret of gun control has always been its racist and elitist roots. This is just more of the same.

Sorry, playing to our prejudices doesn't work around here. Most of us are far too skeptical and experienced to fall for that old trick.

Comment by: gdhanddym@bellsouth.net (4/25/2006)
I get choked up too when I hear of young children gunned down in a hail of bullets, but the conclusion that guns be banned from the street and/or confiscated is pure nonsense as it would solve nothing. The real crime is the lame sentences and parole guidelines of these same big cities not to mention all the plea bargaining that lets some killers go virtually without serving more than a minimum sentence. And who pays for it? You and me because the lawmakers and politicians invariably want to punish us for the crimes and in essence make us the criminal. Tell your friends in city hall send the anti-gun lobby packing!!!!

Homer,

I can PROVE my contention. When I moved into my neighborhood, it was filled with druggies, pimps and prostitutes.

I sat out front with my 12ga. and/or .44M with coffee for about 6 months. Didn't have to threaten or use my gun(s). But the vermin got the point and sought easier prey. Don't have a problem now.

THAT is how you clean up your neighborhood(s). The police are meant to investigate and solve crime. And arrest the perps.

The Usurpreme Court ruled that individual protection is NOT gov. responsibility, and they are right. It is the citizen's responsibility. Although the same perverse court overruled the Constitution and provided the means to Usurp against our Right. ALL 'gun control' is Constitutionally Repugnant.

I don't know where this "Homer" guy came from but his attempt at using "ebonics" does not suit him well. He sound to me tlike one of those people who actually believes that giving up a right in the quest for security is actually an acceptable course to follow. He fails to understand the meaning of "POLICE STATE" also. His defense of politicians who seek to distroy the Constitution as fair trade for perseived safety smacks of British or Australian lineage. Certainly NOT American.

With only his posting to go by, I would say that he is a co-conspirator of Bloomingidiot. His mention of specific weapons such as AK-47 and "Streetsweeper" also point that way for those are the "chosen weapons" of Bloomingidiot, Daley and others of their ilk.

tkampert - Bullseye, bud. Thinking the same myself. Though, went so far as to think it might be BloominIdiotBerg himself. (When you have that kind of money, you find unusual ways of entertaining yourself).

In any event is was some kind of subterfuge. Which tells me their getting desperate. (Among other signs I've seen of late that indicate as much).

Grasping at straws...

Sorry, Homer, my rights are notsubject to your ghetto-speak words of compromise...and what's up with the language? Do I need a secret decoder ring from a box of Cracker Jacks to decipher that, or what?

These mayors are having a meeting to conspire to infringe our rights, plain and simple. NSSF is making the classic mistake of negotiating with tyrants, thugs, and other assorted terrorists. History shows that this doesn't work.

So, homer, "dude", peace out, yo, keep it real.

Its amazing how none of you want to step up and do your own thinking vs. parroting others. Why not fire off faxes to Bloomy with your new ideas to fix the problem rather than delving into meaningless diatribes aimed at trying to deflate my ego? I am not anti... Im not Bloomy or with them... I am not ebonic... I talk that way to be funny and stay within the 750 limit.

You guys have NO real facts to back up your contentions about these 12 mayors trying to save thier towns from the wild west mentality. Info's method will only make it more like the OK Corral incident as violence begets violence. These ideas of yours are not win-win at all. Isnt there a solution that doesnt involve more guns?

Comment by: homersilliad720-odysseus@yahoo.com (4/25/2006)
U guys r smart think of something better & tell Bloomy. Save our cities from themselves! Your all right when you say plea bargains and innefective courts are a problem too. But letting gang-bangers tote guns without reciprocity is just dumb!

Comment by: homersilliad720-odysseus@yahoo.com (4/25/2006)
Lwarner,
You're probably right about the sweeper and stryker... I'm no gun expert but I'm not anti-gun either. My point was that you can not deny that these 12 cities are in total crisis mode today due to criminals mowing down collaterals with SOME sort of rapid fire weapon... They are not marksman so colat damage and target damage is MUCH higher than any car accident! So I stand corrected. Guns don't kill street people... thugs do by pointing their fingers and go bang... :->

Homer,
While you style yourself the equal of the blind poet you are more on the level of Homer Simpson.

Where in my post was I "parroting" anyone?

Regardless, it is quite proper to quote others to support one's argument.

The true 'Wild West' was a lot safer than any of our major cities are today. The O.K. Corral was notable in it's rarity, not it's commonality. Heck, the O.K. Corral incident involved fewer people than your run of the mill drive by.

Try to get this quote through your thick skull: " Armed men are citizens, unarmed men are subjects"

Info's way works, disarming the population doesn't work, just look at England if you don't believe me, or prisons.

1st of all REN who says I was talking about you? HS is a cool cartoon... irreverant like me! I revere no man's narrowmindedness... not aimed at you REN.

IMO Info's way would be a rennaisance of irresponsiblity as not everybody knows what to do and what not to do with a gun. You guys are qaulified but others are not by a long shot! An irresponsibily and disorganized armed society would be like Mad Max Thunderdome - anarchy like the 19th century SW USA - IMHO.

Yesterday's mayor's meeting AGREED with all of you that GOV (including themselves) has failed society! So 12 mayors were not so conspiratorial afterall... Next steps "what to do now?". Why not help them rather than snipe at them. They are trying to be openminded.

You dumb*ss liberal morons dismissed the Founding Principles! Because you thought your IDIOTIC thinking was superior!

You and your precious 'mayors' ARE TRAITOR'S and worthy of a TRAITOR'S FATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
