"The names of concealed handgun license holders would be kept secret under legislation given preliminary approval today by the Texas House."
"The bill by Rep. Suzanna Gratia Hupp, R-Lampasas, passed on a voice vote after no debate. A final vote was expected next week."
"Under current law, the Department of Public Safety must disclose whether an individual holds a concealed handgun license to any person submitting a written request and a $5 fee." |

"Opponents believe [it] will result in hiding the identities of those... packing heat."
Wow! These liberals have an amazing grasp of the obvious.
"Rep. Lon Burnam, D-Ft Worth, says... one of many attempts... to limit the public's access to information."
"Donnis Baggett, ... agreed. He said he was disappointed... there was no debate about a bill he called scary."
It appears Lon & Don would ideally like to have every concealed handgun license holder wear an, 'I Am Carrying A Firearm' sign around their necks. Kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? |

""If someone climbs the UT tower and starts shooting at people, we can't even check to determine if the state declared that person capable of carrying that gun," Baggett said. "
So how would this information help you get that person off of the tower? |

| I am really suprised that the DPS didn't oppose this bill. The B******* wouldn't get their 5 dollar fee. |

| This is an excellent example of government masquerading as a cure for a problem created by government. If the State of Texas hadn't decided to violate the Second Amendment to the US Constitution by requiring a permit to carry, they wouldn't have to worry about keeping the permit holders names secret. |

| It seems that comrade Armbrister from Victoria put an ammendment on SB501 to give cities and counties the ability to use the 30.06 law to keep concealed carry out of county and city buildings. I don't know what the big deal is, if it is concealed well, the scum don't know it is there. |

NoNoNo! This is a GOOD law! It just needs a couple of tweaks.
Tweak 1: The cost of finding out if an individual has a CHL goes from $5 to $500.
Tweak 2: The State of Tejas gets $50 for processing, the applicant gets a name, and the licenseholder gets $450.
Everybody Happy. |
