This is a natural result of places not allowing guns to be carried on their premises. When I carry, the only time the gun is not on my person and under my direct control is when it is not allowed to be. I have no other choice but to leave it in the car, and the thieves know this. They know which parking lots are adjacent to places that don't allow guns, meaning those cars are much more likely to contain guns. This also makes cars without guns more likely to be broken into in these areas, as the thieves will just break into any car in the lot and see what treasures it contains.
If you want to solve the problem, stop making people leave their guns unattended. Simple, really. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
No kingdom can be secured otherwise than by arming the people. The possession of arms is the distinction between a freeman and a slave. He, who has nothing, and who himself belongs to another, must be defended by him, whose property he is, and needs no arms. But he, who thinks he is his own master, and has what he can call his own, ought to have arms to defend himself, and what he possesses; else he lives precariously, and at discretion. — James Burgh, Political Disquisitions: Or, an Enquiry into Public Errors, Defects, and Abuses [London, 1774-1775]. |
