Trump threatens gun law veto

President Donald Trump is threatening to veto two Democratic bills that would expand federal background checks on gun purchases, saying they do not sufficiently protect gun owners’ Second Amendment rights.

The House, now controlled by Democrats, is expected to vote — possibly this week — on separate bills requiring background checks for all sales and transfers of firearms and extending the background-check review from three to 10 days.

In a veto message, the White House said that the bill expanding background checks would impose unreasonable requirements on gun owners. It continued that the bill could block someone from borrowing a firearm for self-defense or allowing a neighbor to take care of a gun while traveling.

You don't vote on Rights.
Rights are protected by the Constitution and they can’t be bargained away or negotiated. So where did these haters of the Constitution get this power all of a sudden at attempting to destroy the Bill of Rights? Hold them accountable...

Thank God that Clinton didn't win the election.

Trump has failed gun owners once - if the RINOs in the Senate enable the Dems to pass this atrocity and he does not veto it, he may as well not run in 2020. Too may single issue voters out here. I'm one of 'em.

"Rather than bowing to the National Rifle Association, Trump should propose his version of legislation that would make a good-faith attempt to assure that those purchasing firearms are, in fact, the law-abiding citizens referred to in the White House veto message."

To the contrary, it is the President's job, per his oath of office, to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, which lists in part certain rights that are fundamental, among which is the right to keep and bear arms. The imposition of waiting periods in the day and age of instantaneous Internet communications and massive data storage is an undue burden on a fundamental right that is guaranteed by the Constitution. Hence, the President's position is sterling.

The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws. — Tacitus (A.D. 55?-130?)
