"The NYPD keeps its internal reports so close to the vest that even elected officials who are supposed to keep watch over the department do not get the information they say they need."
"CBS 2 HD obtained a copy of the NYPD's 2005 Firearms Discharge Report and shared it with our viewers last week. The report shows New York officers with a mere 8 percent accuracy rate during gunfights in that year." [emphasis added]
"The disturbing statistic was news to us, but amazingly it was also news to Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. The Chairman of the Public Safety Committee hadn't even seen the report until we posted on wcbstv.com."
"'It doesn't make sense, but unfortunately it is part of a pattern,' Vallone said." ... |

One pattern is giving cops large capacity magazines and watching them spray bullets like they were shotgun pellets. |

Consider that most NYPD officers are native New York City residents, not "come-heres." They get classroom training, field training, driving training, THEN they get to touch a real handgun for the first time. Ooh. Aah. Just like in da movies. Al Pacino. Clint Eastwood. Now to the practice range. Whut da f--? Muzzle flash? Recoil? Dey don't got DAT in da movies. Lemme shoot my 18 qualification rounds and get da f-- outa here. Seeya in six munts. |

I wonder how much NYC pays out in lawsuits because of poor training.
I shoot at least monthly and I feel my shooting skills could improve alot.
That being said I probably shoot way better than these paid professionals.
I guess NYPD brass thinks people like us would be more of a public safety hazard than cops so they won't issue permits. |

| Can't councilman Peter Vallone Jr read?? It was in the paper that it took over 40 rounds to kill an unarmed bride groom after a batchlor party and over 30 rounds to kill an unarmed man in his doorway. How the hell can you call these "gunfights?!?" Homicide is more like it. Imagine, over 70 rounds to kill two people who wern't even shooting back!! |

Sounds more like a sadist, satanic ritual to Me. Hey ROY!? You only hit in the knee. Give him 20 or 30 more. Did these Cops think they were having a Party? |

| As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight. And it is in such twilight that we all must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. — Justice William O. Douglas, US Supreme Court (1939-75) |
