"Boston Public" Defames NRA & All Law-Abiding Gun Owners

by Michael Pelletier

The television show "Boston Public" had a story line this evening (December 9) that started out looking somewhat promising.

A group of students wanted to form an NRA chapter in their high school, and approached a teacher who they knew to be a gun owner to sponsor the club. So far, so good.

Undoubtedly, those who pursue the shooting sports in Boston feel a bit isolated, and as anyone who's attended a function with fellow advocates of firearms freedom knows, getting together with like-minded people is a great boost to one's morale. And together, we can accomplish a lot, like bringing the Eddie Eagle GunSafe program to elementary schools and teaching about the safe and responsible use of firearms.

Well, the would-be faculty sponsor gets up in front of a standing-room only crowd, and immediately launches into a crass, sickening diatribe, regurgitating all the fallacies and sloppy logic that characterizes the anti-gun debate. Glossing over the fact that Japan is a police state, omitting the fact that Australia and Great Britain's crime rates are skyrocketing in the wake of their massive gun grabs.

In short, he lumped all NRA members, and indeed, all gun owners, in with cold-blooded and heartless murderers. He essentially equated possession of a gun with an act of violence, and mocked the students for pursuing their interest in marksmanship and firearms safety instead of causes like "feeding the hungry, helping the homeless," and a litany of other worthy social causes that have been hijacked by our nanny government and made mandatory through confiscatory taxation.

I urge each one of you, and the NRA, to seriously consider a defamation or slander lawsuit against the writers and producers of "Boston Public." They want to sue the gun manufacturers out of existence? Let's take a swing at suing "Boston Public" out of existence.

We must not stand by and let them insult and slander us any longer. It's time to take action, and make them pay for their lies and their bigotry and their hate. Let's sue their pants off.
