A SCREAM FOR SUPPORT!!!

by Cheryl Frei
tcefrei@ticon.net

Excuse me, I have no idea where I need to post this letter, please forward it, if this not the correct place. I wanted to have it available to the members of this group, as it is an urging for support, and for information as to what is going on in this small town, to one of our own citizens. Thank you so much!

This is no longer a cry for help but a scream! In February of this year a young man, Sam Bassett, stopped at a bar and was harassed and threatened for his life by another man, Jedediah Mead, and some of his friends. Sam Bassett, so was scared enough to ask a couple of bouncers to walk him to his vehicle, at which point he retreated, going to his home. Not long after, his sister pulled in the driveway and right behind her Mr. Mead, along with two others, pulled in. After several verbal warning from the sister, telling Mead to leave, she was pushed aside and Mr. Mead rushed into the home. Mr. Bassett fired one shot. Mr. Mead later died at the hospital.

People, Mr. Bassett has been in the county jail since February! He has been charged with first degree intentional homicide, aiming a loaded weapon at a person, disorderly conduct, threatening an officer. The first bond was set at $250,000. cash! The charges were dismissed in July, and Mr. Bassett was again charged in August and hauled back to jail, once again bond was set. To date it is $105,000, cash. A trial date has been set for December fourth. Mr. Bassett's attorney has made a motion to dismiss, which is set for November 14. By the way, Mr. Bassett has NO previous criminal record, except a speeding violation. He worked in Arizona with the search and rescue squad, he has worked on various cattle ranches and is a positive addition to our society!

I beg of you, all you people who feel a passion about the right to protect yourself with a gun...please lend your support! Emotionally, prayerfully, or even financially. This family has very little, and since February, Mr. Bassett has not been to work, he lost his truck, not to mention his spirit at times! This is Janesville, Wisconsin. Judge Daley will be presiding over the case. The address for letters is Violet Bassett Box 78 Afton, Wisconsin 53501.
