I found a web page by, for, and of, pro second amendment cops. It is called,
cleverly enough, 2nd Amendment PD. (http://www.2ampd.net)
I signed up as a member, and contributed a short article for their
consideration. It was actually a letter I had written in June of 1999, to
another officer elsewhere in the country to explain my strong pro 2nd Amendment
views. I of course edited out names and other such things that would not be in
context, and sent it via e-mail.
Today at work, I get an e-mail from the chief. It seems he had received an
e-mail from a citizen in another part of Oregon, about my article. She said that
her husband had been murdered a few years ago, by a handgun. (At about this time
I'm beginning to see my retirement disappear. Oh, S**T. ) But I read on. She was
praising me and what I had to say, telling El jeffe that I am a treasured asset
to the Dept. Whew! I jogged (not walked) to the chief's office, ready with my
"Golly gee whiz boss, I didn't think that would happen" speech, but he
cut me off. He said atta boy, and he supports everything I said.
Double whew!
Anyway, if you care to read what I submitted, go to:
http://www.2ampd.net/articles.htm
and scroll down to you see my name. The web master must have put in our city
logos and the disclaimer, because I did not, but on hindsight, the disclaimer is
a good idea. I'm way to close to retirement to be messing around.
By-the-way, I did e-mail the lady and thanked her for her support.
Pretty cool. Made my day.
