Tommy Banks, 26, and David Price, 23, were arrested Saturday night after
they allegedly robbed the Amoco gas station at 4201 Terry Road, shot a
customer and forced their way into a home after the getaway, police
said.
The customer, William Smith, 52, of Jackson, who suffered a chest wound,
was in fair condition Sunday at the University of Mississippi Medical
Center, UMC spokeswoman Janis Quinn said.
Two men armed with handguns walked into the Amoco about 9 p.m.
Saturday.
One of the men held up the business and afterward "robbed the clerk of the
contents of her purse," said police spokesman Robert Graham.
"At that time, the other individual noticed a customer entering the store.
... He robbed the customer and shot him in the chest."
The robbers fled on foot, heading south on Terry Road towards Red Hill
Drive, police said.
Shortly after the robbery, two men showed up at the home of Charles Sudduth
on Red Hill Drive, Graham said. When Sudduth opened the door, they forced
their way inside, Graham said.
The men grabbed the keys to a truck parked outside, Graham said. The truck
got stuck in mud when they tried driving off, so they ran back toward the
house, he said.
"When they did, the homeowner shot at them twice," Graham said.
The men ran off, he said.
About 30 minutes after the robbery, Precinct 1 officers cornered two men
running at Terry Road and Dees Street, Graham said.
He would not say how much money was recovered.
"The Precinct 1 officers did a good job," Graham said.
Banks, of 1035 Mayes St. in Jackson, and David Price, of 1461 E. Northside
Drive in Clinton, are charged with three counts of robbery and one count
each of aggravated assault and house burglary.
They are being held on $210,000 bonds each.
