CARS vs. GUNS
The Liberals are Right.

from Scott Bitterman

The latest rhetoric we hear from the anti gun people is we should treat guns like cars. I think its time to seriously look at this idea -- and support it.

Questions CARS GUNS
Minimum Age to purchase? no yes
Do you need government permission to purchase one? no yes
Anyone every been to prison for owning one? no yes
Is there a waiting period to obtain one? no varies from state to state
Have many of them been outlawed? no yes
Do you need insurance to have one? To use one? no not yet, but some anti-gun people are pushing it
Do you have to keep them childproofed? no varies from state to state, but they are pushing national legislation
Have they been confiscated due to bans? no yes
Are their manufacturers sued for how they are used by end consumers? no yes
Do you need a license to own one? no yes
Must you register it? not for private use varies from state to state, and national legislation is being pushed
Can felon own one? yes no
Can you take one to school? yes no
Can you take one into any city within the state you reside? yes varies from state to state, but in many places, no
Can you take one to any state in which you don't reside? yes varies from state to state, but in many cases, no
Safe use taught in school? yes no
Number of accidental deaths (1998, National Safety Council) 41,200 900

So do the liberals really want to treat guns like cars or not? I think the call by liberals for treating guns like cars should be heeded -- and I believe they aren't really thinking about what they are saying.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so. Indeed I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order. — Adolf Hitler, April 11, 1942. (Source: "Hitler's Table-Talk at the Fuehrer's Headquarters 1941-1942", Dr. Henry Picker, ed. (Athenaeum Verlag, Bonn, 1951).)
