Shawnee, Oklahoma -- The efforts of two alleged home burglars on the prowl
Friday were foiled when a homeowner confronted and held them at gunpoint until
the law arrived.
Pottawatomie County sheriff's deputies arrested
two suspects at 15709 Crosslin Road Friday evening, said Detective Tracy
Warkentien.
Joshua McCalister, 18, was held in the
Pottawatomie County jail on $3,000 bond Friday night on the complaint of
burglary in the first degree, he said.
A 16-year-old male was held on complaints of
burglary in the first degree and possession of a firearm during the commission
of a felony, he added. The juvenile remained at Carter Hall Juvenile Detention
Center Friday night on a $5,000 bond, he added.
Warkentien said the sheriff's department was
notified at 5:49 p.m. Friday of two men kicking in a garage door and gaining
entry into the home on Crosslin Road.
Homeowner Thomas Winter, armed with a pistol,
reportedly confronted the two suspects in the entry hall, Warkentien said.
The juvenile suspect, allegedly armed with a
sawed-off .410 shotgun, started running up the stairs, Warkentien said, before
the homeowner was able to get both suspects on the ground at gunpoint.
Winter held both suspects at bay until deputies
arrived.
Sgt. Randy Willis, who was near the area, was
dispatched to the home and arrived on the scene within three minutes, Warkentien
said.
Both suspects were taken into custody without
incident, he said.
Warkentien and Undersheriff Dwight Gardner also
responded and assisted at the scene.
Because the homeowner was at the home during
the incident, the law allows for both suspects to be held on the complaint of
burglary in the first degree, Warkentien noted.
No formal charges have been filed in this case.
