CLEVELAND COUNTY (SHELBY), NORTH CAROLINA -- A skunk shot to death by a Cleveland County homeowner has tested positive for rabies, animal control officials said Thursday.
A family reported seeing the skunk behaving abnormally at 2137 Gaffney Road in Shelby on Tuesday. State health officials tested the skunk and found it was infected with the deadly disease.
The family's pet dog will be euthanized because it did not have a current rabies vaccination.
