Dear Mr. President

I am writing today about a matter that has bothered me deeply for some time and more so in the past few weeks since the September 11th attacks on our nation. I first want you to know that I love our nation dearly and believe in the effectiveness of our constitutional republic, and that since the age of eighteen I have served this county 15 years in the U. S. Army –proudly under former Presidents Reagan and Bush- and am currently a Federal Correctional Officer. I am in addition to my official capacities, a father of three girls and a husband, so I wish to pass on to my children a nation in better condition than it is now. That is part of the reason I voted for you and urged others to do the same in the last election.

America’s greatness has been demonstrated in this century through the actions of our nation defending those oppressed and in need. However, I believe it is time to rethink our national foreign policy, especially foreign financial aid packages to nations or organizations that prove to be hostile toward us- actions do speak louder than words. I truly believe that if you personally asked everyday, working, taxpaying Americans what their opinion was on foreign aid was? They too would feel as I do- our tax monies would best be used within our own borders. It seems common sense when we citizens see you and congress debating budget cuts that the first place to get cut is foreign aid - our people are being taxed into oblivion- and this would prevent either side from using Social Security and Medicare to scare our nations elderly. One area that should be first to get the axe is the UN. Why should we as Americans foot 25% of the UN operating budget when the majority of member nations are blatantly hostile to our greatest of all nations? In recent months they have attacked our second amendment; labeled us a civil right crushing racist nation (Durban, South Africa) and are trying to destroy our very national sovereignty, (UN Secretary –General Kofi Annan stated that national sovereignty gets in the way of the UN objectives) all the while holding their hand out demanding, or extorting monies if you prefer, from the American people.

Russia and China, as well as our supposed allies in NATO, don’t want us to build a missile defense system to defend our borders, which we obviously need in light of Sept. 11th.. You yourself on your October 11 address to the nation, stated that the "ABM treaty is outdated, antiquated and useless. And I hope that he [President Putin] will join us in a new strategic relationship." It is these very alliances or coalitions, or treaties that limit our ability to defend ourselves. Get us out of the UN and other foreign entanglements!

The UN has no understanding of or respect for our American freedoms, so how can we trust such an organization that individual rights and freedoms are such foreign ideas to the despots that inhabit the halls of the UN to protect our US interest? Recently I had written a letter to Mr. Annan in opposition to the Small Arms Conference, just to learn that mine, along with many other concerned Americans’ politically oriented letters were turned over to the UN security office for analysis for possible terroristic threat. This just goes to prove the fact that the UN and other such organizations are made up of despots with no regard for the freedoms that we enjoy as Americans. They are not concerned with the average citizens’ right to defend themselves no more than they are with the US maintaining the ability to defend itself with increasing threats. We don’t need the UN to protect our nation, we need strong elected leaders willing to do the job that we elected them to do- that is, if you don’t know, to protect our freedoms as well as our borders.

Can you please explain to me why the United States must send our taxpayers monies out of our borders and especially why continued US involvement with the sovereignty stealing UN is so important that Americans must pay 25% of its operating budget? It doesn’t make good sense to rural Americans like myself who still believe in traditional American values and the ideas outlined within the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and Bill of Rights. The county-by-county breakdown of the last election shows that the majority of rural Americans voted in favor of you and this was due to your standing for American Values. The fundamental principles of our constitutional republic are that individual rights come from our creator. To protect these rights governments are instituted among men, these governments are given very specific and limited powers and are held accountable to the people whom elected them.

Another example of the freedom eroding nature of the UN specifically is the International Criminal Court. In the Declaration of Independence, our founding fathers outlined several atrocities committed by the tyrant King George, among these atrocities our forefathers were subjected to " jurisdiction foreign to [their] constitutions and unacknowledged by [their] laws;" depriving them of the benefits of trial by jury;" and transporting them " beyond the Seas to be tried for pretended offenses." Prohibitions against these very acts are spelled out in the Bill of Rights. The proposed ICC would deny Americans of these rights. Furthermore an ICC decision cannot be appealed except to the same ICC Court and there are not previsions for bail or speedy trial. Elected public servants and appointed public officials should first be students of history and the Constitution before being declared fit for duty.

It is blasphemous to know that Independence Hall, were our nations independence was declared is now a UN World Heritage site. The principles that were put to paper in this most hallowed site of American heritage are quite different than those enshrined in the principles espoused in the UN mission, which are more along the line of Marx, Moa, Lenin, Stalin, and Castro than Madison, Jefferson, Jay, Webster, and Franklin. Our founders were much wiser men than live in this day and we could learn from them.

Several of our elected public servants have suggested that we should overhaul the UN, like there is some kind of redeeming good inherit in the organization. However, for an organization as corrupt and seething with socialist, communist, and dictators there is no accommodation, no compromise. The only solution is complete withdraw. I am not advocating isolationism, but non-intervention in the internal affairs of other nations. Our foreign affairs should be conducted out of our many embassies throughout the world, as it was before the foundation of the global organization. We should do what used to be called " minding our own business", as we want other nations to do when it comes to our internal matters. Did any other nation send troops, advisors, or observers to our nation during the last election to insure impartial recounts? No! We handled it ourselves. George Washington stated in his 1797 Farewell Address, " the great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is, in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connections as possible." This is good advice even in our modern world. Thomas Jefferson reiterated this when he said, "...peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none." Senator Robert Taft of Ohio wrote in 1951: "fundamentally… the ultimate purpose of our foreign policy must be to protect the liberty of the people of the United States… No foreign policy can be justified except a policy devoted without reservation of diversion to the protection of the American people, with war only as a last resort and only to preserve that liberty." I believe that seeking out and destroying those responsible for, those that protect, and fund the acts that transpired on September 11, 2001 is justified, but coalitions have in the past proven to stop us short of destroying those that do us harm. In the same line of thought of Senator Taft, did we as a nation get distracted by the internal affairs of other nations and allow the attack on our own people? Did our elected officials enable the terrorist to slaughter in excess of 6000 Americans? Bring our military back within our borders, protect our home front first, withdraw from the UN peace keeping forces that have us distracted by the affairs of other nations and allowed the slaughter of innocent Americans to occur. Patrick Henry once said, "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God!" Get US out of the UN, and break the chains that bind us in the name of world peace that at the same time threatens our nation sovereignty, freedoms, and security.

I know that you are busy with the problems of our nation, and I would like to mention that you are doing a excellent job and it makes me proud to have voted for you. However, I would like you to personally address these concerns and take action. In the past month we have heard many words of support from supposed friends, but past actions speak louder than words. DEEDS NOT WORDS. I will continue to communicate my opinions to you as well as my other elected public servants.
