Dear Nancy,

I am appalled at the way you were treated by testosterated government employees at the airport -- yet another sign of the burgeoning police state in which people only want the government to own guns and hold power.

You said you are looking for leaders in the civil rights movement for the formation of a new coalition. I fit that description. First, I want you to know that I AGREE WITH YOU ON THE ORGANIC FOODS ISSUES:

I spent part of my life selling and promoting organically grown foods, as you now do. I worked on the wholesale and retail end and then consulted retailers on marketing and product longevity strategies. But my passion was always the product and the love, truth, and good energy behind it. I was disgusted by the "report" that lied repeatedly about the organic foods industry (John Stossel, who usually does The People right), and even as I am working on other issues these days, my best friend and roommate manages an organic produce department here in Flagstaff, Arizona.

MY CIVIL RIGHTS FIGHT

It is with some hesitation that I tell you what front of the war being waged against our rights has my attention, for too often I find that people who lean Left now oppose this constitutional right. I stand for the right of the people to keep and bear arms -- as intended by our nation's Founders. I will refrain from spitting out a host of justifications, because the basic human right of self-defense needs no justification, and you didn't ask.

Just know that as a Right-leaning non-Republican, you have support here if you care to call upon it in building a new, if perhaps motley crew of civil rights activists. It's probably a good idea for people all all political backgrounds to come together in defense of the Whole Bill of Rights, lest we lose this country right before our very eyes.

Respectfully,

Angel - Thank you so much for your response. It happens I'm a firm supporter of the Second Amendment, even if some of my fellow greens are not. I'm a farmer and any rural person, especially a woman, needs a gun as a tool - there are coyotes who are too interested in the sheep and ducks and geese, etc., and then sometimes bad birthings mean one has to kill a critter - and I've had two-legged marauders appear at the door insisting they wanted to "visit," and so on. Yes, it's just another tool - and also a leveler for a woman who lives alone.

Thanks again, and I'm glad you're in.
