NORMAN, OKLAHOMA -- An 18-year-old Norman man was charged earlier this week in
Cleveland County District Court with second-degree burglary after a woman with a shotgun caught him trying to escape from her house.
John Thomas Maurer Jr., 1629 Avondale Drive, was trying to leave Virginia
Delaney's house at 1624 Avondale Drive through a laundry room window
when she stopped him.
Police said Delaney told them she returned home from a store and noticed a
fan in her bedroom turned around as well as a video cassette recorder halfway removed from an entertainment center.
Delaney then grabbed a shotgun, police said, and searched her house.
When Delaney found Maurer in the laundry room, she escorted him back to
her bedroom and made him empty his pockets. He turned over a cell phone, a
pack of cigarettes and four pennies, police said.
Maurer was then allowed to leave, and he walked across the street to his home, police said. Delaney then called police, who came and arrested Maurer.
