AMA and Guns

From: "George Cleveland" <gnclev@earthlink.net>
To: <richard_corlin@ama-assn.org>
Copies to: <Paul-Revere@frostbit.com>
Subject: AMA & Guns
Date sent: Thu, 13 Dec 2001 07:37:52 -0500

If I - or all of my friends - thought for one moment that the AMA's and the Center for Disease Control's only concern in the "gun issue" was the reduction in violence I [we] might be able to swallow your claptrap. However, it is very evident that your goals are the same as the medical profession in Australia - frame the issue as a public health problem and ban firearms.

I would think that the AMA, as the premier medical association, would be better served by trying to reduce the "accidental" deaths that are caused by physicians every year. What are the latest statistics? Twenty to thirty thousand deaths at the hands of the healers? What about this epidemic of medical violence?

Get your own house in order before you attempt to trample on others!!
