Mr. Wells, I find it highly offensive
that you think just because a lawful citizen is carrying a gun, that you would
expect them to use it for everything from self defense, to opening a can of
soda, to using it as a tool for arguing.
While that might be your inclination,
it is not everyone's.
What I find very hard to understand
is that you mention Ruehlman's statements, that the law-abiding citizens have
the absolute right to defend themselves, then go to say that because they are
law-abiding and have firearms, that total chaos will ensue.
We DO have a reasonable law already,
it's called the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution. It's part of the Bill
of Rights. The same Bill of Rights that gives you your freedom of speech and
press.
After reading such an article from
a person such as yourself, I'm very much in favor of a new law to be sure someone
doesn't print something stupid with their freedom of speech before it is examined
by a government official and deemed necessary and appropriate.
33 states in the US have shall-issue
license laws. None of those states have degraded into Wild West movie style
shoot outs.
What would your law be? Something
that only let people of 'importance' carry or even possess a firearm?
