Subject: Gun laws ill effect
To the editor;
I noted with amusement that in your
15 January 2002 story "Armour for north London police" (link to article:
Untitled Document <http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/dynamic/news/story.html?in_review_id=488673&in_review_text_id=446145>
), a police spokesman is quoted as saying,
"We have pretty strong gun laws
in this country but they do not seem to be having any effect."
I suggest
that these laws are indeed having an effect: evildoers are emboldened by the
knowledge that the good citizens have dutifully surrendered their firearms.
Great Britain has "solved" a problem that it didn't have and thus
created a real problem.
