Jogger shoots man who pulls knife on him

Jogger shoots man who pulls knife on him
Tucson, Arizona
May 30, 2000

A jogger armed with a semiautomatic pistol shot and seriously wounded one of two men who apparently attempted to rob him with a knife Sunday night, said Sgt. Marco Borboa, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

The injured man, who was not identified by police because he has not been arrested, was taken to Tucson Medical Center where he was in serious condition. TMC would not release any information about the man yesterday.

A 31-year-old man was jogging in a residential area northwest of East Speedway and North Wilmot Road when two men - one armed with a knife - attempted to rob him, Borboa said. The TPD investigation determined that the jogger fired at the armed man and held the two at gunpoint near East Bellevue Street and North Rook Avenue.

"We have no evidence at this time that would lead us to believe

that there is any misconduct on (the shooter's) part," Borboa

said, adding that the investigation is not complete.

The man has a permit to carry a concealed weapon. The suspected robber who was not injured, Eduardo R. Reyna, 24, of Tucson, was arrested on charges of aggravated robbery, armed robbery and aggravated assault. He is currently being held in Pima County Jail on $5,000 bail.
