Illinois isn't known for being supportive of the right to keep and bear arms. It's unfortunate because...well...everyone should respect our Second Amendment rights, among others.
But those in power don't.
That's resulted in numerous lawsuits seeking to overturn a plethora of regulations. Now, gun rights advocates are asking for an injunction against one particular measure. |

As part of a new statewide effort to reduce gun violence, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers is praising firing range owners who have a program to store their customers' guns. Evers also backs the sale of gun safes to be used at home.
Evers has often spoken in favor of adding what he calls common-sense gun regulations, so he may not be the first person you think of as willing to tour a firing range and visit a gunfire simulation room. But he did so Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Bear Arms Boutique Firing Range near an industrial area along Granville Road in Mequon. |

The fate of Washington’s ban on the sale of high-capacity firearm magazines now rests with the state Supreme Court.
On Tuesday morning, attorneys for the state and a southwest Washington gun shop challenging the law made their cases to the justices.
Lawyers for Kelso's Gator’s Custom Guns argued the ban on selling magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds violates the clause of the state constitution that protects “the right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state.” |

After a brief pursuit, the suspect would turn around, allegedly posturing like he was about to stab and or attack the pursuing resident with the taser.
The suspect, fearing for his life and safety, would fire a single shot striking the suspect in the abdomen. Upon police arrival, the suspect was rushed to Brook Army Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The resident was taken into custody, however, at this time there are no charges pending against the resident, and police on scene were treating the incident as a self-defense matter. |

KelTec announced Wednesday it is blending tradition with innovation in its newest carry pistol, the top-fed internal magazine PR57.
Chambered in 5.7 NATO, the "R" in the PR57 comes from its use of a rotary barrel design. Ditching a detachable box magazine in favor of a clip-fed top-loading design similar to the old C96 Broomhandle Mauser and KelTec founder George Kellgren's circa 1988 Grendel P10, the company says the PR57 is the lightest pistol in its caliber on the market, with the full-sized handgun hitting the scales at just 13.86 ounces, unloaded. |

In the 2008 District of Columbia v. Heller U.S. Supreme Court decision, Justice Antonin Scalia contemplated potential location restrictions governments could impose on the exercise of Second Amendment rights. Justice Scalia noted that the Heller decision’s determination that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms did not cast doubt on the validity of “laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings.” |

The Supreme Court has relisted two Second Amendment cases for its conference on Friday January 17. They include Snope v. Brown, which concerns whether Maryland may ban semiautomatic rifles that are in common use for lawful purposes, and Ocean State Tactical v. Rhode Island, which asks whether a confiscatory ban on the possession of magazines that are in common use violates the Second Amendment. Last Friday, when it relisted these cases, the Court denied certiorari in two other Second Amendment petitions (see my posts on all four of the cases here and here).
The courts of appeals in the above two relisted cases held that no one "needs" the banned rifles and magazines that Americans nationwide choose. |

Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi told U.S. Senators she would work with lawmakers regarding gun policy mirroring Florida’s Parkland bill. But she didn’t commit to any specific proposal and stressed her own support for the Second Amendment.
She made remarks to Democratic Senators during a sometimes contentious confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla, a California Democrat, asked Bondi about Florida laws passed during her tenure as Florida Attorney General. |

Second Amendment advocates are raising eleventh-hour concerns about past gun-control efforts pushed by former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to run the Justice Department.
Leading up to this week’s two days of Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings, questions have been raised about her past support for red flag laws and age limits on firearms.
Critics have rallied behind the influential group Gun Owners of America, which has been issuing memos urging members to demand that senators press Bondi on her views of and approach to the Second Amendment.

Legislation to remove suppressors and silencers from National Firearms Act regulation and treat them as regular firearms has been filed in the new Congress.
The Hearing Protection Act would reclassify suppressors, currently NFA-controlled Title II firearms, as Title I, which would allow their transfer through regular federal firearms license holders to anyone not prohibited from possessing them after the buyer passed an FBI instant background check.

Rep. Claudia Tenney has introduced a bill in Congress aimed at protecting Second Amendment rights by preempting state-level firearm restrictions, including New York’s SAFE Act.
The Second Amendment Guarantee Act (SAGA), announced by Tenney on Tuesday, would prohibit states from banning the manufacture, sale, importation, or possession of rifles and shotguns that are lawfully permitted under federal law. The legislation is co-sponsored by Representatives Doug LaMalfa of California and Nick Langworthy of New York. |

The return of Donald Trump to the White House is a breath of fresh air for gun owners and Second Amendment advocates after four years of anti-gun policies and constant calls for gun control from the Biden White House. But critics are cautioning firearms owners not to relax too much, as there are still plenty of efforts to curtail Second Amendment rights from the federal government, and in blue cities and states.
Gun sales surged in 2020 ahead of Joe Biden taking office and again last year ahead of the election, as Americans hedged against a possible Kamala Harris victory. Now, we're likely to see those numbers subside a bit. |

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) scored a significant legal victory for young adults in Pennsylvania as the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 to block the state police from arresting law-abiding 18-20-year-olds for openly carrying firearms during a declared state of emergency. The case, Madison Lara v. Commissioner Pennsylvania State Police, marks the second time the Third Circuit has ruled in SAF’s favor. |

Two recently passed Ohio laws take preemptive action to help gun owners, from expanding legal immunity for using concealed handguns at houses of worship to prohibiting firearm ownership fees and barring public- and private-sector tracking of firearms owners.
House Bill 452 and Senate Bill 58, signed by Gov. Mike DeWine last week without comment, are the latest steps by Ohio Republican lawmakers in their years-long effort to bolster gun rights in Ohio and loosen state gun-control measures. |

Five months ago, attorneys representing several gun rights organizations filed a petition for an en banc rehearing of a case they’ve been fighting in California challenging the state’s anti-Second Amendment law designating all kinds of public venues to be “sensitive places” where licensed concealed carry is prohibited. About the same time and all the way across the country, gun rights groups were jumping into a case known as U.S. v. Ayala regarding the indictment of a Florida postal worker who was prosecuted — and cleared by a federal district court — of carrying a firearm in a federal facility. |

Kevin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
The firearms training and self-defense industry has grown significantly, driven by increased fears and uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns about rising crime. Despite inflation, the industry along with gun sales has seen steady growth as people recognize the importance of being their own first responders. There’s been a notable rise in young people and women enrolling in training programs to learn about their Second Amendment rights and self-defense skills. |
