Spafford, 36, was charged with possession of a firearm in violation of the National Firearms Act. Law enforcement officers allege he owned an unregistered short barrel rifle.
The investigation began in 2023 when an informant told authorities that Spafford was stockpiling weapons and ammunition, according to court documents...The informant, a "friend," told authorities Spafford had disfigured his hand {emphasis added}

Submitter's note: I had to put the most important information front and center since the fascist AP buried the fact that some karen of a "friend" snitched to the gestapo. |

An Olympic gold medalist came back home for the holiday and gifted his winning rifle to the Nebraska National Guard Museum in Seward.
Gary Anderson won his first Olympic gold medal in the 1964 Tokyo games. He used the rifle to win gold and break the world and Olympic record in the 300-meter rifle event.
He went on to win gold again in the 1968 Mexico games.
Anderson said when he began training to shoot targets on his farm, he couldn’t afford ammunition. Instead, he would shoot the gun without ammo, and envision it hitting the target.
He said doing that possibly helped him more than if he had all of the resources.

Workplace violence is fairly common in today’s world, and often, innocent people are hurt or killed in such episodes. Sometimes, however, employees who are armed and trained in using their firearms can turn the tables in workplace violence situations.
Such was apparently the case at a Greenfield, Indiana, Amazon Distribution Warehouse on December 13 as the buys warehouse prepared Christmas orders. |

Toure says, “All gun control is racist!”
All?
“It was literally started to stop Black people from having the means to defend themselves.”
He’s right. In the 1600s, American colonies had rules against Blacks owning guns.
“It’s a good thing we don’t like being told what human rights we have,” says Toure. “I’m an American. I go by the Constitution.” |

Seattle’s recent appointment of Shon Barnes as the new Chief of Police has ignited a storm of both optimism and controversy. While his remarkable track record in crime reduction and community-focused policing has drawn praise, resurfaced comments about the Second Amendment have sparked sharp criticism from gun rights advocates.
As Barnes prepares to take the helm of the Seattle Police Department, his leadership promises to test the delicate balance between public safety and constitutional freedoms in one of the nation’s most progressive cities. |

Turning to your question: I think Americans have an obsession with guns which is unhealthy. I think it has roots in the founding of a new country, exploring and settling the western frontier, and rebellion against old governments, all of which occurred a few centuries ago. Fear and anger at levels higher in our country than what are found in other countries stimulate the ownership, purchase, and use of firearms. Part of the solution is to lower these emotions and part of it is to reduce the access to and the number of firearms in the country. |

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is cheering the announced departure of Steven Dettelbach as head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and is urging incoming President Donald Trump to appoint someone who will “run the agency, not politicize it.”
Dettelbach submitted his letter of resignation on Dec. 20th, 2024, and it becomes effective Jan. 18th, 2025, just two days before Trump is sworn in as the 47th U.S. President.
“That’s one less person Trump will have to fire after he takes office,” CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb observed, “and it is one less gun prohibition lobbyist on the government payroll.”

In a surprising move, outgoing President Joe Biden’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Director Steven Dettelbach tendered his resignation on December 20 with an effective date of January 18, 2025, just days before Trump is inaugurated. This leaves the agency amidst growing scrutiny and political pressure. The resignation comes at a time when the ATF has been at the center of heated debates over gun control policies and the Biden administration's efforts to suppress the Second Administration. Critics have pointed to the agency's handling of specific initiatives and its controversial stance on gun regulations. |

ATF Director Steven Dettelbach plans to resign just days before Donald Trump retakes office.
On Thursday, the ATF told The Reload that Dettelbach submitted his resignation to President Joe Biden with an effective date of January 18th, 2025. That is the first official confirmation of Dettelbach’s plan since he told The New York Times he planned to step down before the end of Biden’s term. The agency did not say who would replace Dettelbach in the interim but described his resignation as a normal part of the transition between presidential administrations. |

It’s fascinating that we have such a strong response to toy malfunctions, which may harm our children in real but minor ways (I remember a recall of a popular toy because children’s fingers could become stuck in it). And while I, the least grinchy of all mothers, wish only the safest toys for our children’s digits, I’m perplexed that as a society we will run news stories, interviews and social media campaigns to remove the dreaded scourge of finger-trapping toys from our streets and yet allow firearms — the leading cause of death among children in the U.S. ages 1-17 for five years running, according to a Johns Hopkins University report — to remain so easily accessible, seemingly without a second thought. |

Happy New Year, now take some advice from an old guy with something of fondness for single-action sixguns. They have a downside.
Just before the holidays, I spent some time at the range checking velocity differences between some of my .45 Colt handloads and some commercial ammunition loaded for “Cowboy Action” shooting. My pet load of 6.9 grains of HP38 behind a 255-grain Hornady RNL-FP clocked right in there slightly above 825 fps out of my Ruger New Vaquero with its 7 ½-inch barrel and a bit slower out of my 4 5/8-inch model. The top speed over my chronograph was 886.6 fps out of the longer barrel. |

The number of ghost guns seized in Baltimore decreased by 24% in 2024 compared to 2023 — part of a longer downward trend.
In 2018, Baltimore police seized 12 ghost guns. The number continued to rise every year, peaking in 2022 with 516. Then, the number started to come down again, landing at 294 in 2024.
"I attribute that to the success of the lawsuit that the mayor... has against some of these ghost gun manufacturers," Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley told WBAL radio. |

The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office has announced it will not pursue criminal charges in the June 18, 2024, shooting death of Daniel Chicka, 65, following an altercation in the Borough of Export.
The decision comes after a comprehensive investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police and a detailed review by prosecutors, including District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli. Authorities concluded that Matthew Miller, Chicka’s neighbor, acted in self-defense during the fatal incident on Madison Avenue. |

Instead of having a federal judge interpret an unclear area of state law implicating the rights of workers, explained Judge Gregory A. Phillips, it would have made more sense for Wang to first answer whether the evidence showed Moreno, in fact, was using self-defense at all, then whether Circle K fired her because of it.
"Though within its power, the district court fielded an uncertain state-law question without addressing two (fact-based) arguments that may have obviated the need for federal predictions about the meaning of state law," Phillips wrote in the panel's Dec. 31 order. |

If you know the regular KelTec KSG series, The KelTec KSG410 basically the same thing – only lighter, thinner and chambered in .410 instead of 12 gauge. There is a lot to know about this unique firearm before you buy one, so here are my thoughts.
The KSG410 shines in terms of size, weight, and capacity. Even with an 18.5-inch barrel, it is only 26 inches long and only 5.4 pounds. That’s almost 2 pounds lighter than its 12-gauge big brother, the KSG. For a shotgun that can hold 15 shells, that’s crazy light. On top of all that, the price of around $400-500 makes it an extremely attractive option. |

The gender gap is getting closer when it comes to gun ownership in the country.
Even though New Jersey ranks at the bottom of the list of 50 states and the District of Columbia, with only 14.7% of the adult population owning guns, women are gaining ground.
Nationwide, about 31% of Americans claim gun ownership. The numbers are now closer than ever, with 40% of the male population and about 25% of the female population. |

We have four sons, one of whom is an avid hunter who has wanted a .450 Bushmaster for a few years. So, it was with great delight that he heard I was to review the BCA .450 Bushmaster AR. After the review, I kept the rifle and loaned it to him. Subsequently, he killed two deer with it during Indiana’s recent firearms season. Those deer look like they’d been hit with an F150 Club Cab—truly hammered!
So, what is it about this caliber that so easily puts venison in the freezer? After all, I’m certainly not the first person to comment about its effect on deer … the “interweb” is rife with reviews and videos of deer and other types of game that were put down by it. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Let us contemplate our forefathers, and posterity, and resolve to maintain the rights bequeathed to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance. Let us remember that `if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.' It is a very serious consideration...that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event." --Samuel Adams, speech in Boston, 1771 |
