Responsible gun owners defend themselves thousands of times a day, but you don't hear it in the news. Firearms Instructor Heather Reeves joins host Rob Morse to talk about four recent examples. Young or old, we need armed defense at night. What should we do if we were in their place?

Sources, text of the discussion, and a 23 minute audio podcast are available at the webpage.

Taylor was arrested after a tenant accused her of threatening him with a gun after he went to the realty office to complain about his air conditioner not working.

Lisa Torraco, Taylor’s attorney, said the judge’s decision came after the tenant testified on Tuesday that Taylor asked him to leave the office three times before pointing a gun at him.

She said Taylor took action in self-defense.

“Ms. Taylor was exonerated today, once again solidifying the right of a property owner to stand her ground against an unlawful intruder,” Torraco said, adding that the tenant also ignored the “no entrance” sign on the office before going inside.

“But we’d really like the court to go further than that, and go to a ‘shall issue’ law – one that says if the applicant is not a prohibited individual, the government shall issue a license – because the ‘good cause’ requirement is unconstitutional and doesn’t work,” Gottlieb said. “Even better would be if they require a standard of review of heightened scrutiny, like strict scrutiny, because carrying a firearm outside the home is a core Second Amendment right.”

WI: Here is why the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse matters to every American

Whether it is self-defense against a robber, murderer, a band of marauding Indians or Antifa, and even an out-of-control government. The Second Amendment was written to allow citizens the God-given right to defend themselves against such evil.

And that is exactly what Kyle Rittenhouse did. And it is why the left needs to punish him for using his God-given rights, as protected by our Constitution. A constitution that does not limit that right by age. You see, when the Constitution was written it was expected that young men of 14, 15, and 16 would be armed and know how to use those weapons to defend themselves

In the past few months, Rapides, Grant and Vernon parishes have declared themselves “second amendment sanctuaries.” On Tuesday, October 12, a similar motion was on the table for Avoyelles Parish. The move would’ve made changes to the parish’s public policy, making it known where the parish stands in the gun control debate, but the motion failed to pass.

The vote was a three to four vote, and Avoyelles Parish Police Jury President Kirby Roy said he was the most surprised of all that it failed.

”I was kinda shocked. We had quite a few people there and the problem we had is we had committee meetings last Wednesday and the problem we had was the word ‘sanctuary,’” he said.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert used a mass killing by bow and arrow in Norway to argue against gun control in the United States.

Hours after at least five people were killed and two were injured in the attack, the second amendment advocate said it showed gun control laws would not prevent mass killings.

"A man in Norway just killed a bunch of people with a bow and arrow. Norway has some of the strictest gun laws around, yet mass killings still occur," she said in a tweet.

"Liberals need to understand it is not the gun - it is the criminal who commits the act!”

Collective change and trauma took place over the year and a half since COVID-19 appeared—the most notable and obvious being a global pandemic with unparalleled loss of life. However, two additional trends pose life-and-death concerns for the 51 percent of the U.S. population who identify as female: increased firearm purchases and domestic violence incidents.

Another bank pauses business in Texas over new gun law. Goldman Sachs joined Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Citigroup in halting its municipal bond underwriting business because of a new law that blocks state and local governments from giving contracts to banks with policies that limit business ties to the firearms industry. Municipal bond underwriting, in which banks act as third parties to set up public financing for local governments, is a multibillion-dollar industry in Texas. Goldman was the nation’s sixth largest public finance underwriter last year, and the others were the top three. Barclays, TD Securities, and Wells Fargo are among the banks still reportedly operating in the state.

The Luttig brief fails to discuss the wealth of evidence demonstrating that Americans at the founding understood the right to bear arms to extend to public carry. For example, as an amicus brief filed by the Second Amendment Foundation demonstrates, our first six Presidents and other leading Founders were proponents and practitioners of arms bearing. Some were citizens of Virginia or Massachusetts, two states which according to the Luttig brief barred public carry altogether. That would have been a surprise to the likes of Jefferson and Adams, who under the Luttig brief's conception of history would have been serial lawbreakers.

The prosecution is arguing that just as Schroeder has refused to allow Rosenbaum, Huber, and Grosskreutz to be referred to as victims, he ought not allow them to be referred to as rioters, looters, or arsonists, nor allow their criminal histories to be referenced.

Of course, the difficulty here is that the only reason that Rittenhouse was present in Kenosha at all that night is because of the rioting, looting, and arson taking place—Rittenhouse was not in the routine habit of walking around a peaceful Kenosha night armed with an AR rifle and first-aid equipment.

Should there be more than nine Supreme Court justices? Term limits for justices rather than lifetime appointments? In April, President Biden established a commission to study these and other potential changes to the high court. Its preliminary report is due Thursday.

The draft comes as the Supreme Court is under heightened political scrutiny and has begun a term filled with divisive issues, including abortion, the Second Amendment and religious liberty.

Far-right Congressman Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina is one such promoter of this claim. He recently praised the Viet Cong militia as an example that everyday people with guns can defeat an entire nation's defense systems, failing to acknowledge that the Viet Cong had funding from the North Vietnam Military, China, and the Soviet Union.

Despite the availability of assault weapons—firearms designed to kill as many people in as little time possible—Cawthorn is now insisting that all of the same weapons available to the U.S. Military should be available to American civilians as well.

Unafraid of criticism or ridicule in the media, Hollywood and college campuses — areas which their allies dominate — they have openly attacked core American values. Sen. Charles Schumer has stated that “The First Amendment is sacred, but it is not absolute.” The Second Amendment is under constant attack. The Ninth and Tenth amendments, which state that powers not specifically given to Washington are reserved for the states or the people, are treated as anachronisms.

Imagine living in the same house with your spouse for over 50 years. Your front lawn has a sapling that, over the course of time, has grown into a beautiful tall tree.

But the neighbor next door who moved in just a few years ago doesn’t like the tree, so she conspires to falsely accuse you of assault and battery after you refuse to remove it. You get arrested as a result. She then seeks a restraining order against you based on her false allegations, files both a civil case and small claims case against you, and to top it all off, California law takes away your right to own or possess firearms in connection with the restraining order—before you even have a chance to respond.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws. — AYN RAND
