Ohioans For Concealed Carry agrees. While law enforcement officers deserve our utmost respect for the commendable jobs they perform, those jobs usually involve solving crimes and not preventing them from being committed against the average citizen. ... "We hear the term 'right to keep and bear arms' from the right as frequently as we hear 'separation of church and state' from the left. They are equally wrong. The Founding Fathers did not have the luxury of, or the desire for, a standing army, so a well-regulated militia was necessary for the security of our young country. This is clearly and obviously no longer true, which severely impacts the relevance of the Second Amendment and is never mentioned by the pro-gun right." ...

"Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner coddles gun dealers who coddle criminals."

"The suburban-Milwaukee Republican played a pivotal role in last week's passage by the House of a bill that law enforcement officials across the land warn would keep federal agents from shutting down rogue dealers."

"Sensenbrenner, who has bashed Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett for the city's murder rate, is shirking his own responsibility to reduce that rate. He is thwarting law enforcement efforts to disarm outlaws."

"No, Sensenbrenner doesn't set out to help the criminal element. Rather, he sets out to help the National Rifle Association - which, in turn, seeks to shield from outside interference all gun dealers, including those who abet the criminal element." ...

"A year ago, when Florida became the first state in America to implement what the gun lobby calls the 'Stand Your Ground' law and what others called the 'Shoot First' law, opponents of the law said it would empower overly aggressive individuals to use more force than necessary, and because it could also weaken the criminal penalties against some individuals who ought to be punished severely for their actions."

"Both those assertions have proven true. In five highly questionable Florida deaths, the law is being used by killers in efforts to avoid conviction for a crime, and one of those deaths predated the law by almost a year. ..." ...

A school employee is accused of bringing an unloaded rifle into the Dwight Eisenhower Middle School, according to a letter sent home with students Friday.

The worker, identified only as a night custodian, also is accused of bringing bullets into the school at another time, Superintendent Brian J. Betze said in the letter.

The incidents occurred after school hours "and not when children were present in the building," said Betze, who said such potentially dangerous circumstances "will not be tolerated."

"Upon Board of Education approval," he said, "the worker will no longer be permitted on school property and will face other legal consequences."

Additional information about the allegations was not immediately available.

Her opening sentence sets up the absurdity of the balance of her article by saying it's not about the Second Amendment any more. That is exactly what it is about.
