When it comes to the debate about what the best big game hunting cartridge is, the 270 Winchester and 308 Winchester are always in the middle of the discussion. Both the 270 Win and the 308 Win offer exceptional long range ballistic performance and have claimed countless game animals across North America and the world for decades.

Texas authorities say an armed customer intervened during the attempted robbery of a fried chicken fast food restaurant, fatally wounding one gunman and sending a second suspect struck by gunfire to the hospital.

Port Arthur police responded around 8:45 p.m. Friday to an aggravated robbery happening at the Church’s Chicken location at 1849 Jefferson Drive. Detectives learned that two suspects armed with handguns were robbing the restaurant, but an armed citizen intervened and a shootout ensued.

Submitter's note: This is the only thing that keeps criminals in check. They don't fear police or the justice system because all they get is low or no bond and probation.

The Democrats’ assault on the First Amendment has been so brazen lately that it’s often easy to forget that they have been waging an even longer and more concerted battle against the Second Amendment. In states where Democrats hold complete control, such as California, they can be counted on to do whatever they can to prevent law-abiding citizens from owning guns — or at least to harass them to the point that it is as difficult as possible.

Gun control extremism by state lawmakers in Massachusetts just cost the Bay State hundreds of jobs and possibly millions of dollars in revenue as Smith & Wesson announced this week it is moving a large part of its operation to Tennessee.

According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, this is not the first firearms company to be moving operations out of unfriendly surroundings to a more pleasant location where firearms are concerned. It is not a complete departure, but the move gets one if the legendary company’s most popular firearms out of Massachusetts.

During his confirmation process for ATF director, David Chipman said very little publicly – even turning his Twitter account to private. Now that the White House has withdrawn his nomination, Chipman can’t seem to shut up, and he’s got nothing good to say about Biden’s team, who he claims left him hanging out to dry.

At one time, the 10 gauge shotgun was a common tool. In the days of the Wild West, it was a fairly standard smoothbore chambering that was actually more popular for some applications than the 12 gauge. So what happened to it? These days, there are literally only a couple 10 gauge shotguns still in production. One of them is the Browning BPS pump action shotgun and another is the Browning Gold Light autoloader, both of which only come in camo for duck hunters.

Viewers who tuned in to the first MTV cable channel broadcast in 1981 were treated to the Buggles performing “Video Killed the Radio Star." This toe-tapping tune predicted old-school radio stations would soon be taking a back seat to this more engaging audio-visual experience. And for a time, they did. But four decades later, music videos have blended into the mass media mélange while plenty of folks are still listening to the radio as they drive to work.

While Americans know that guns take many innocent lives every year, many don’t know that firearms also save them.

On May 15, an attacker at an apartment complex in Fort Smith, Ark., fatally shot a woman and then fired 93 rounds at other people before a man killed him with a bolt-action rifle. Police said he “likely saved a number of lives in the process.”

Oregon's attorney general filed lawsuits Friday against two counties that had adopted ordinances that sought to nullify new statewide gun safety laws and declaring themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuaries.” In her lawsuits against Yamhill and Harney counties, Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum asked the circuit courts in those jurisdictions to declare the ordinances “invalid and void" because they conflict "with paramount state law.”

For years, Taurus’ semi-automatic, striker-fired handguns have been the ones I’ve wanted to love; after all, models such as the G2 and G3 seem to have every feature a concealed carrier could want, including desirable size, capacity, sights, grips and, most notably, price tag. But, each time, they left me brokenhearted.

The future of abortion rights is in the hands of a conservative Supreme Court that is beginning a new term Monday that also includes major cases on gun rights and religion. The court's credibility with the public also could be on the line, especially if a divided court were to overrule the landmark Roe v. Wade decision from 1973 that established a woman’s right to an abortion nationwide. The justices are returning to the courtroom after an 18-month absence caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and the possible retirement of 83-year-old liberal Justice Stephen Breyer also looms.

A group of Democratic lawmakers from Madison and Milwaukee on Friday introduced legislation that would ban firearm add-ons known as "bump stocks." The bill's introduction coincides with the fourth anniversary of the shooting at a Las Vegas concert that killed 60 people. Twelve of the rifles found in the gunman's hotel room were affixed with the modifiers, which allow semiautomatic guns to fire more rapidly.

ightlite’s unusual AR-style lower receiver doesn’t wear a pistol grip or even have an attachment point for one, which gives the carbine an unusual, bordering-on-traditional profile without abandoning the modern sporting rifle’s durability and performance. In 2020 the company added the warmth of wood to its line, a version that American Rifleman had a chance to test drive.

In this week’s segment of North Dakota Outdoors, Mike Anderson gives us a preview of what hunters can expect during the upcoming pheasant hunting season. With extreme drought over most of the state, pheasant populations are down compared to last year. “The two biggest things that affect pheasant populations are weather and habitat. And with the drought both of those are impacted. Especially weather, the habitat isn’t growing up with no moisture, also no bugs, so no food for those chicks the first two weeks, inclusively all they eat are insects,” said NDGF upland game biologist Rj Gross.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
To suppose arms in the hands of citizens, to be used at individual discretion, except in private self-defense or by partial orders of towns...is a dissolution of the government. — John Adams, A Defense of the Constitutions of Government of the United States of America (1787-1788).
