The .40 S&W cartridge was developed with two specific goals in mind – to have more stopping power than the 9mm Parabellum, and better handling and manageability than the .45 ACP. With these goals in mind, a team comprised of technicians from Smith & Wesson and Winchester built the .40 S&W cartridge.

Over the past few years, we have tested and reviewed each of the primary products in this kit: The F.A.T. Wrench, Laser Bore Sighter, and Reticle Leveling System. All were superb and handy tools. We often wondered why they were not included in a single kit with one carrying case. Well, it finally happened, and we are happy to give a brief discussion of each and their benefits to every shooter that uses a scope.

Hunting, trapping and fishing have been a very important part of my life since I was very young. I haven't trapped since the 70s, however, and going up to the St. Lawrence River to fish just about every weekend slacked off by the the 90s. My waterfowl and deer hunting continued and at the end of the 90s some land was bought in the Southern Tier and a cabin and pond were built. Camp became the center of my outdoor adventures, which revolved around deer hunting.

Deer hunters are being allowed to buy an unlimited number of remaining North Dakota doe licenses in four southwestern hunting units, as the state Game and Fish Department looks to dole out all of this year’s allotted licenses. The wildlife agency is making 1,930 remaining doe licenses available as concurrent season licenses -- valid during any open season. The agency hasn’t used the tactic since 2011.

Hillsdale is a remarkable college in Michigan that was established in 1844. More of its students went to join up for the Civil War than any other western school. And it is known for offering a Classical education and teaching the Constitution. It also takes no money from the Federal government. And is highly celebrated for its requirements and high standards. But much less well-known are their shooting range, shooting workshops for adults and students and now, programs for high school students. How did they pull this off in the state of Michigan?

Overseeing more than 720 stores in 47 states, Ed Stack, the CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods, has a multi-billion-dollar empire to run. But Stack is now balancing running a business with his new role as one of the corporate faces of America's gun control debate. "I don't understand how somebody, with everything that's gone on, could actually sit there and say, 'I don't think we need to do a background check on people who buy guns.' It's just, it's ridiculous," he said.

The National Rifle Association, through its Women on Target program, is proud to “Go Pink” for the first time as it joins the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, now celebrating its 35th anniversary. Through this endeavor, NRA women—and men—will raise awareness about the importance of early detection, education and support services. If breast cancer is detected and treated early, chances of survival are high. Although great strides have been made in awareness and treatment, there is much to be accomplished.

Nearly 6 in 10 Americans think that homicides or mass shootings, rather than suicide, are the leading causes of gun deaths in the United States, a new survey shows. These results cast light on yet another way that Americans are dramatically misinformed about gun deaths, in turn reflecting poorly on the state of the political discourse surrounding guns. Fewer than one in four respondents correctly identified that suicide accounts for the majority of gun-related deaths.

Last year, carrying 3 pounds of 1911+ammunition got old, so I picked up a different carry pistol. Specifically, a TriStar C-100, which is a compact DA/SA pistol in 9mm. Since I’ve been carrying and shooting this pistol for more than a year, with closing in on 1,000 rounds through it to date, I have some observations about what life is like with a double-action gun.

Variation is one of the things that has kept the 1911 alive and viable in the age of the striker-fired pistol. Differing frame sizes, barrel lengths, frame materials, barrel lock-up systems and chamberings allow for a great many possibilities as to what makes a 1911 ideal for a given task. When it comes to EDC (everyday carry) 1911s, Dan Wesson has quietly been turning out some of the finest, best-thought-out, personal-protection pistols to be had anywhere. They’re not draped with a bunch of bells and whistles, but with genuinely useful, well-considered features, and the execution of those features has been generally excellent.

The deer hunting season has arrived in Maine for hunters who pursue their quarry with bows and arrows. The archery season for deer began Saturday and runs until Nov. 1, the first Friday in November. Archers are limited to one deer per year. Maine wildlife regulators suggest even veteran hunters check the rules before hunting. The state also has an "expanded archery" season for deer that allows hunters to take deer until Dec. 14 in designated areas.

In a truly "fair and balanced" world, the re-election of Donald Trump would be a foregone conclusion. By just about every measurable standard, his administration has been a roaring success despite relentless resistance from his political opponents. So why should Trump supporters be worried? Because the media and entertainment industries are dominated and controlled by rabid liberals who hate Trump, conservatives, and everything associated with them: God, guns, and individual freedom.

Mid Michigan and the southwest corner of the state offered hunters the best opportunity to get a deer in 2018, according to the 2018 deer harvest survey compiled by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. About 554,311 people hunted deer in Michigan in 2018, and about 49% of those hunters killed at least one deer, according to the DNR report.
