You’ll forgive the wordplay, but the hard fact is this: We begin National Review’s 2019 Fall webathon against the backdrop of America’s most critical free-speech drama — Mann v. National Review. It’s our battle, yes, but it’s very much yours too, because the consequences of a courtroom defeat will be serious (an understatement if there ever was one) for all Americans.

Specifically, murders committed by all types of rifles combined dropped by a staggering 23.9%.

We all know New York is an anti-gun bastion. The state, like most in the Northeast with the exception of Vermont, has some of the most stringent anti-Second Amendment laws on the books. The law that’s going to be argued before the Supreme Court is—well—what you’d expect from a state like this: In New York City, it’s illegal to transport a locked, licensed and unloaded firearm to a range or home outside of the city limits.

Buried in a story from WOSU about the introduction of new gun control legislation in Ohio by Gov. Mike DeWine that does not include a so-called “red flag” disarmament provision is an observation by Buckeye Lt. Gov. Jon Husted that reveals a genuine problem many Second Amendment activists contend is inherent in such laws.

The news agency said DeWine’s “STRONG Ohio” plan does not include a “red flag” tenet, nor is there a so-called “enhanced background check” portion.

You couldn’t have rolled a pickup truck full of beer cans off the mountain and created more commotion than the bull elk was making. I’d heard him bugle, checked the wind, snuck closer, and ultimately found myself a nice aspen tree to sit against. I could see 50 yards ahead of me before the mountainside broke into the drainage below—but I could see through the timber and onto the other face across the drainage, too, where the bull was. I had an open-reed call and some idea of what it was supposed to sound like. So I made a little mew.

With impeachment talk thick in the air in Washington, serious discussions about implementing any type of gun safety legislation seems dead in the water. Perhaps that’s why two gun-control groups plan to spend nearly $200,000 in a digital advertising push during the October congressional recess aimed at Republicans in swing-states. Among the 15 Republican senators targeted are Marco Rubio and Rick Scott of Florida.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The "assault weapon" ban didn't stop the [World Trade Center/Pentagon] terrorists, Brady checks didn't stop them, the high capacity magazine ban didn't. Right to Carry would have. If it had saved only one tower and the people in it, it would have been worth it. GUN CONTROL KILLS. — LTC Stasski, 9/11/01
