In times like these, with increasing uncertainty over economic, political and social issues, people react in a number of ways. As people become apprehensive about such problems and how they might be affected, they also seem to become more concerned about their physical safety, as well. ... Inevitably, even at seminars where firearms are not specifically discussed, someone will ask about buying a gun for protection. The same questions are being asked directly to police officers, often by their friends, family members or other people in the community, who see law enforcement professionals as experts on firearms. |

It's late at night and you hear your front door being kicked in. What do you grab for to protect your home and family? A gun, one of mankind's best tools and inventions; cold sleek steel, brass, gunpowder and lead all together has never been so important until now.
There is a belief that guns kill people and we would have less violence without them. This is about the same as saying pencils make mistakes, not the writer. As bad as it sounds in an open and free society, there will be terrorist attacks both foreign and domestic. You simply cannot control everyone, nor can there be a policeman stationed on every block.

SALES of guns in the US are on the rise as gun enthusiasts fear president-elect Barack Obama and his Democratic allies in Congress will impose new restrictions on firearms.
In October, as Senator Obama appeared headed for victory, sales of guns jumped 15 per cent, with about 150,000 long guns sold for a total of 1.18 million firearms purchased, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) which checks police records of gun buyers.
Although more recent figures are not yet available, the spike in sales of rifles, handguns and semi-automatics began in the spring and surged in October. |

Go back to last year for a minute. The Supreme Court heard a case in which it was asked to interpret what the Second Amendment to the Constitution really means.
Apparently, after almost 220 years, somebody actually read the thing: "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
Does the right to keep and bear arms apply to well-regulated militias, or to the people? |

And them flash supressors and silencers and 500-round clips? If you’re a hunter, I don’t have to tell you how crafty them elk and deer have been getting. If you want to make sure and hit your target within 50 feet of your truck, you have to even the odds a little, that’s all.
You know, I might not have any idea what the First Amendment, or the Fiftieth Amendment, or any of them other Amendments is about, but by God, the Second Amendment is the one I recite every night when I’m saying my prayers. ...
I pledge allegiance to the NRA, and the United States of America. In that order. Anybody who don’t think that’s patriotic, well, they can speak with my attorneys, Mr. Winchester and Mr. Remington. |

Carl Geist was taking a break on Saturday at the Wanenmacher's Tulsa Arms Show by reading David McCullough's "1776," which tells the story of the beginning of the American Revolution.
Sitting in the food court at Expo Square's QuikTrip Center, Geist said the colonists broke with Great Britain primarily because the British overtaxed and attempted to disarm them.
Some 232 years have passed since then, but many attending the biannual gun show, which concludes with a session from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, seemed to have similar worries. |

It is the second amendment to the United States Constitution, and many people are practicing their right to bear arms.
Charles Gilbert, a manager at Target World in Sharonville, says the demand is like nothing he's seen before.
"9-11, when that happened, or when the riots happened a couple years ago, sales peaked during those time periods, but nothing to what we're seeing today. No comparison," Gilbert said.
Customers say they're buying guns because they're not sure what President Elect Barack Obama is going to do. |

Sarah Palin worked her heart out. She energized tens of thousands to come out who would have otherwise stayed home. She touched countless families. I didn’t agree with everything she said on the campaign trail. But she vigorously defended the Second Amendment and the sanctity of life more eloquently in practice than any of the educated conservative aristocracy. And she did it all with a tirelessness and infectious optimism that defied the shameless, bottomless attempts by elites in both parties to bring her and her family down. |

Gun sales, especially semi-automatic gun sales, have skyrocketed since the election of Barack Obama to the presidency of the United States.
The definition of a semi-automatic weapon is a weapon that uses the expanding gas from a fired round to drive another round into the chamber, allowing the trigger to be squeezed until the ammunition runs out, without the user pausing to manually insert another bullet.
With the recent Supreme Court ruling that struck down the Washington, D.C., handgun ban, the laws governing gun control swung hard to the right, immediately before the political system as a whole swung left. The fear on many gun aficionados' minds is that the new administration will do its best to ban the guns they love so much. |

Weapons obtained through private sales are best because you want to avoid the usual paper trail that comes with purchasing a firearm from a gun shop. Flea markets and gun shows are the first places to look. If you can’t find what you want here, then putting an ad in a local newspaper or better yet one from another area stating that you are a collector interested purchasing firearms for top dollar, will bring in plenty of offers from people needing extra cash. |

Not surprisingly, given the new president's enthusiasm for restoring the so-called "assault weapons ban," military-style semi-automatic rifles appear to be the hottest sellers around the country. What government officials should have learned by now is that the best way to put more of anything into circulation is to suggest that you're going to attempt to use the law to restrict its availability. People will then rush to acquire that which is about to be forbidden. |

Overview: The Gun Gap
Gun owners believe that progressives are anti-gun, anti-Second Amendment, and do not respect the values of gun owners; however there is a significant opportunity for progressives to gain gun owner support with a moderate message that voices support for Second Amendment rights, calls for the closure of loopholes in our gun laws, and demands vigorous enforcement of the existing laws on the books. In a generic ballot, this formulation improved Democratic performance by a net of 29 points.

I look at 'sensible' gun laws like 'sensible' Shoes...yes Shoes. Now stay with me.... My mother always told me to wear 'sensible' shoes. Well what are sensible shoes? Depends on who is doing the wearing now doesn't it?
My point...'Sensible' is a subjective term that means something different to each person who is interpreting it. But I sure don't want some dimwitted law maker legislating what shoes are 'sensible' any more than I want them legislating what laws are sensible when it comes to the freedom to protect myself and my family and what tools I choose to use to do it with.

An unequivocal "no" from the state Attorney General's Office is often enough to shoot down a city proposal.
Not so with a move by Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels to ban legally permitted handguns from city-owned parks and buildings, an effort that, if successful, could shatter a 47-year-old state prohibition against cities' regulation of firearms. |

The American Civil Liberties Union says undercover police officers posing as protesters staged a violent confrontation with another officer during the Democratic convention in Denver. The ACLU said it obtained a police document showing the undercover officers pretended to struggle with a police commander so they could be removed from the crowd without blowing their cover. The ACLU says another officer thought the commander was being attacked and pepper-sprayed the undercover officers. |

"I must admit, I'm a little bit happy about Obama winning the election. No, it's not because I'm all googly-eyed over his message, or because I think he's the country's salvation. Quite the opposite, in fact. I'm glad he won, because I think it will speed up, if only by a tiny fraction, the demise of the United States empire. Good riddance."
