Toasting s’mores with the group around the campfire, Connor Wakefield, bowhunting fanatic, turns to Katie Robbins, brand-new archer, on the eve of her first-ever deer hunt. “Ready to smoke one in the morning?” he asks. “Smoke one what?” she says. “What kind of camp is this?” “Smoke a deer. Shoot it.”

Control of the United States Senate will be critical no matter who wins the White House (which will likely be determined after the litigation is resolved). Should Republicans control the body, they can either keep continuing the confirmation of judges who would uphold our Second Amendment rights or block judges who would wreck them. Of course, if Democrats get control, they could block pro-Second Amendment judges and ram through judges who would dismantle our rights.

Last week, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito told a group of attorneys that individual rights were at increased risk of government encroachment—including the right to keep and bear arms. In the wake of an apparent White House victory for gun grabbers, and Joe Biden promising executive action on guns, many gun owners are left wondering how far Joe Biden and his promised gun-control czar, Beto “Hell yes we’re going to take your AR-15” O’Rourke will go—and how much opposition will come from the U.S. Supreme Court.

Belgian company FN Herstal released their FN 5.7x28mm cartridge in 1991, after NATO requested a replacement for the 9x19mm cartridge. Kevlar body armor was increasingly being used, and was effective against the 9mm, so it became a priority to develop a cartridge that could defeat this body armor. The 5.7x28mm accomplished this task by penetrating a level IIIA vest at 200 meters without any difficulty. As well as its armor-piercing ability and high velocity, the 5.7x28mm cartridge decreases the risk of collateral damage because the shape of the bullet reduces the chance of ricochet.

Shanna Torp has never been uneasy around guns. Her father, a retired trucker, kept a gun in the cab when he was on the road. When Torp, a debt collector from Post Falls, Idaho, goes camping, she takes a rifle to ward off cougars and bears. But after her mother died following heart surgery, her 80-year-old father became despondent, Torp told suicide-prevention workers at a gun show in Spokane last autumn. There had been several suicides in Post Falls, she said. She added pointedly: “And he’s got quite a few guns.”

One of several pieces of gun control legislation pre-filed for the 2021 Texas legislative session in Austin is a measure aimed at eliminating the Lone Star State’s firearm preemption law, according to KLBJ radio.

House Bill 238 would allow local governments to establish their own gun control ordinances, including bans, the story said.

I often visit the NRAWomen.com website, which is, frankly, a dangerously distracting habit, because I find myself clicking on article after article long after the time when I really should be moving on to something else. Today was no different. Knowing I was going to be writing about this site and its editor, Ann Smith, I browsed over to get a flavor of what was being offered. “If my gun can run dirty, why must I clean it?” asked the site at the top. Perfect—click—I need to share that article with the girlfriend who asked me this very question yesterday. This article on dangerous places sounds interesting—click.

You and I have alnever lived through a moment like this one. In the past several months, we watched an unprecedented wave of violence sweep across our nation—fueled by a deep-seated hatred for mainstream American values, and actively encouraged by politicians who openly despise America’s founding freedoms.

Social science methods are not perfect, but that has never stopped anti-gun researchers from making outlandish claims. Most recently, a team of researchers led by Doctor Apurva Bhatt from the University of Missouri Kansas City sought to evaluate the effect of changes in Missouri firearms laws on suicides among teenagers and young adults. Their analysis is burdened by a fundamental disregard of applicable firearms laws and their findings are so suspect that even uninvolved anti-gun researchers have formally acknowledged the problems.

The first Winchester lever-action rifle — Model 1866 — used the rimfire .44 Henry round. Starting with the Model 1873, Winchester used a cartridge that was basically sixgun length — the .44 WCF (Winchester Center Fire), or as it is mostly known today the .44-40. It was basically the same length as the .45 Colt. This did not go unnoticed by Colt and by 1878 they were offering the Single Action Army chambered in .44-40. Now shooters could have a rifle and revolver chambered in the same centerfire cartridge which was quite a bit more powerful than earlier rimfire cartridges.

Presidential election years often spark a rise in firearm interest and with two months left in 2020, background checks for firearms have already broken 21-year-old records. As of October 31, more than 32.3 million firearm background checks were run through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), a system used by stores to determine whether a person can legally buy or own a firearm. Of those checks, 3.3 million were conducted in October, a 42 percent increase from the same month in 2016.
