Gun-rights advocates backed by President Donald Trump hope a U.S. Supreme Court clash over New York City restrictions on transporting firearms will be the Second Amendment victory they’ve been seeking for a decade.

With a conservative majority strengthened by two Trump appointees, the court on Monday will hear a case that could produce its first ruling bolstering gun rights since 2010. Its decision probably will come in June in the heat of the presidential campaign.

The lake-studded commuter town of Mahopac, NY—once rated one of the best places to live in the country—seems an unlikely location for the outbreak of a second American civil war.

But for a few hours on Nov. 23, 2019, militia members and other far-right groups from across the country became convinced that Mahopac was going to be the 21st century’s Fort Sumter, set off by a seven-hour police standoff over a veteran’s Second Amendment rights.

Council’s July action to declare Needles a Second Amendment Sanctuary City has inspired many comments and some emulation over the intervening months; including creation of a Fierce About Freedom Award by the California Rifle and Pistol Association; a similar declaration in neighboring Mohave County and a suggestion that Bullhead City follow suit.

Shortly after the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting, Scott Wilson found himself thrust into the national spotlight as the voice of gun rights in Connecticut.

It’s a role he didn’t imagine earlier in his life, as a survivor of gun violence himself.

As president of the Connecticut Citizens Defense League, Wilson called for protecting Second Amendment rights as many others demanded new gun control laws after the 2012 killings of 20 children and six educators in Newtown.

“It was a horrific tragedy that was certainly not lost on me or any of us,” Wilson said. “We still felt our constitutional rights were important. More gun laws weren’t the answer.”

Shenandoah County residents came out in force Tuesday to push for protection of their right to bear firearms.

The Board of Supervisors could consider adopting a resolution to deem the county a “Second Amendment sanctuary,” joining a growing number of localities taking a pre-emptive, albeit symbolic, stand against gun-control legislation expected to come before the General Assembly in January.

While the First Amendment is the first line of defense for our Second Amendment rights, this defense must be effective. One of the ways to ensure the effectiveness is to keep the fight on as favorable terms as possible – and that requires an honest assessment of what Second Amendment supporters have going for us.

An armed home intruder was shot and killed by one of the home’s residents Wednesday night, according to the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened when deputies say a 47-year-old man broke into the house near the town of McCleary around 9:30 p.m.

The suspect was armed with a knife, and he was confronted by a man who lived in the house. As the two fought, a 36-year-old woman – who investigators say had a restraining order on the suspect – retrieved a gun and killed the suspect.

The Trump presidency has led to many squishy GOP voters in the suburbs voting for Democrats. This development, coupled with the Virginia GOP being unable to find candidates who could win statewide and leaving nearly 25 percent of state senate races without a Republican opponent, led to disaster on election night. Virginia Republicans only had a two-seat majority in the House of Delegates and a one-seat majority in the state senate. For the first time in two decades, the Democrats control all in Richmond.

As a reminder, in that column I took offense to a company selling a rifle with the sales pitch “Nothing Says ‘Merry Christmas’ Like An AR-7.”

Irreverent! Totally unacceptable.

I also said in that column it’s time to stop selling assault weapons that can kill a lot of people in a short period of time.

Ector, a member of the National Rifle Association, added: "To make gun owners responsible for criminals stealing their property, I can't accept that either."

The gun ordinance might not be legally sound, said Ector, who said gun laws can only be enacted by the Michigan legislature and the federal government.

The city has 32,000 people living within its 5.1-mile borders and the incidents "were troubling."

Officials for the Lansing-based Michigan Municipal League said Tuesday they believe the ordinance is unique in Michigan.

Michael Bloomberg made it official. Gun control godfather, financier of several anti-gun groups, is throwing his billions in to buy his way to the White House and forcing his radical anti-gun agenda on America.

It might have been the worst-kept secret in the history of presidential runs. The former New York City mayor has played an on-and-off-again tease with his presidential ambitions. In October, the Nanny-in-Chief threatened a run, only to walk it back when he announced in March he wouldn’t. Then, he said, “I am clear-eyed about the difficulty of winning the Democratic nomination.”

The National Sheriffs’ Association is leading a coalition of law enforcement and gun rights groups urging the Supreme Court to strike down New York City’s gun transportation regulations.

The coalition filed an amicus (or “friend of the court”) brief arguing that the city lacks a legitimate public safety rationale for the rule, which prohibits “premise license” holders from carrying their firearms beyond city lines or to any location besides an authorized gun club. The high court will hear a challenge to New York’s regulations on Dec. 2.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
...If a man lies under oath or procures the lie of another under oath, if he perjures himself or suborns perjury, he is guilty under the statute law. Under the higher law, under the great law of morality and righteousness, he is precisely as guilty if, instead of lying in a court, he lies in a newspaper or on the stump; and in all probability, the evil effects of his conduct are infinitely more widespread and more pernicious. — Teddy Roosevelt - May 12, 1900
