Hornady Zombie Max (Z-MAX) ammunition was a special line created for killing zombies. Yes, that’s right – zombies. No longer in production, this specialty ammo was basically a fun gimmick with surprisingly good performance. Paired with a cool packaging design, Hornady Z-MAX made for a great conversation piece and was very popular among shooters – mainly because nobody knew how long it would be in production. Here are some of the features and uses of these fun zombie bullets (other than zombie control, of course). The official webpage also has a fun video and a great disclaimer that’s worth a read.

A teenage girl who was shot in the chest in a Chicago neighborhood Friday night is now facing an attempted robbery charge after officials said she tried to rob a woman she was meeting for a sale.

The Chicago Police Department said in a news release on Saturday the incident happened around 5:45 p.m. in the city's Little Village neighborhood, when 21-year-old Araceli Diaz met with the 14-year-old girl after the teenager arranged the meeting to buy a dog.

Diaz was subsequently arrested in Cicero about an hour after the shooting and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, according to police.

Submitter's note: Self defense can get you arrested in Chicago.

"This is the Super Bowl of deer hunting," says Brian Banbury of the Ohio Division of Wildlife. "It’s Ohio’s biggest outdoor adventure. Deer gun week is very popular. A lot of people from out of the state come to Ohio, a lot of people who once were from Ohio come back to hunt on the family farm."

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court on Nov. 18 on behalf of Alabama and 20 other states asking the high court to hear a challenge to an anti-Second Amendment law in Maryland. “The overwhelming majority of states recognize that the Second Amendment allows law-abiding citizens the right to bear arms outside their homes for self-defense,” said Marshall in a press release.

A pro-gun rights group is suing the city of Eastpointe over an ordinance that mandates all cars that people store their guns in must be locked.

The law in question took effect in October following a rise in reported gun thefts from vehicles located in the city. Eastpointe's Public Safety Director George Rouhib told the Detroit News that 60 gun thefts had been reported in the past three years.

The trend prompted the city to enact a provision punishing anyone who left a firearm in an unlocked vehicle with a $350 fine or 90 days in jail.

The city is now being sued over the law by Michigan Gun Owners, Inc., which argues that state law preempts local governments from regulating possession and transportation of firearms.

In a case being closely watched by advocates on both sides of the gun issue, the U.S. Supreme Court Monday heard arguments challenging a New York City law that was actually changed earlier this year in an effort to derail the case, a move one national gun rights organization publicly derided.

“The only reason that change was made is because the Court accepted the case for review earlier this year, and everybody knows it,” said Alan Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation.

Florida lawmakers want to close some loopholes in Florida's gun laws, but how they're going about doing so is causing controversy. A new bill calls for creating a state database of fingerprints for people who apply for concealed carry permits. The bill would also require people to re-apply for a new permit every five years instead of the current seven.

Governor Ralph Northam called the 2019 state elections “a new day and a new landscape,” telling NPR about the gun control measures he wants to push forward.

Two years into an “affordable bail” initiative that is allowing most accused gun offenders and even accused murderers to be released from jail to await trial, Cook County’s chief judge says the program is working fabulously.

“It’s not by magic that we haven’t had any horrible incidents occur using this new [bail] system,” Chief Judge Timothy Evans said during county budget hearings on Nov. 4.

There are likely many people who would disagree with Evans’ definition of “horrible incidents” — if they were still alive to do so.

Federal court records document numerous cases in which people are charged in Arizona with smuggling guns into Mexico, where such firearms often figure in drug cartel violence and other criminal activity. The Arizona Daily Star reports that a review of U.S. District Court records in Phoenix and Tucson found 32 gun-smuggling cases in 2018 and that the records indicate that most didn't result from seizures at border crossings.

When it comes to using our First Amendment rights to protect our Second Amendment rights, there is one particular mistake that far too many Second Amendment supporters are making. This mistake could very well cost us our Second Amendment rights – and the hardest part is that those who are making the mistake can even be defiant about said mistake, even as it unintentionally harms the cause they are trying to defend.

Shotgun enthusiasts already recognize the distinct Slavic origins in the design of the Citadel RSS1. It’s essentially a Molot Vepr shotgun, which, along with the Saiga-12, was one of the go-to tactical scatterguns for decades. Based on the AK system, these guns were detachable-magazine-fed, semi-automatic shotguns available on the market before even the AR-15 became wildly popular with consumers, let alone other modern tactical guns. Then international politics happened.

After the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school murders, a group of Florida municipal governments sought to overturn Florida’s 2011 preemption law, which generally prevented state and local governments from imposing criminal penalties on firearm ownership and possession more strict than state law. The object of the law was to save gun owner from having to navigate a patchwork of jurisdictions where their choice to keep and bear arms might land them in jail on one side of the street, and totally okay on the other.

Editorial: The Supreme Court should drop a problematic New York gun case

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Monday in a New York City gun case that the justices could toss out because there no longer is an issue on the table for them to decide. Or they could lurch to the other extreme and hold that the 2nd Amendment confers a personal right to carry a firearm in public. For once, we hope the court takes the easy way out and drops the case rather than giving the 5-4 conservative majority a chance to dangerously expand the scope of the 2nd Amendment.
