Nigeria: Legalising Gun Ownership

“Arms proliferation is not good, but if you cannot take the arms from the hands of criminals, then why should you deny arms to those who are mature and whom you can even trust? So, a man who has worked in Federal Civil Service up to the level of a Chief is not trusted to be trained and armed?

“Not to talk of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). The FRSC was established because of accidents and to rescue people. But today, the safety we are talking about is to be protected on the road from kidnappers and other criminals. So, why are we wasting time in training and equipping them (FRSC officials)? And then, if you are arming one vigilante, why can’t you arm the other?”

“Preliminary investigation indicates this appears to be an isolated incident, and investigators believe there are no additional threats to the public at this time,” police said in the news release.

A man who called 911 told a dispatcher that while at his ex’s house, her ex came over and banged on the doors before entering and asking where his gun was. He allegedly threatened the caller then assaulted him and the homeowner and pulled out a gun, at which point the caller pulled out his own gun. The ex-boyfriend fired a shot, which missed, at which point the caller said he fired his own gun and shot the victim.

Pro-gun legislators in Georgia have introduced a bill that would help protect gun owners who use their firearms in self-defense by strengthening the state’s Stand Your Ground (SYG) law.

HB 1226 provides much-needed legal protection that is currently missing from the law, according to the group Georgia Gun Owners (GGO).

“Georgia code presumes that if gun owners use a firearm in a self-defense situation, we’re guilty,” GGO said in an alert to members. “That means that instead of the state needing to prove our guilt, gun owners need to prove our innocence. That gives all of the power to the state! 20 states have fixed this, Georgia hasn’t.Clearly, Georgia’s self-defense laws need an overhaul.”

The debate over 3D-printed firearms took an unexpected turn Friday when Rep. Scott Bottoms stepped forward with a constitutional warning.

House Bill 26-1144 would ban the 3D printing of firearms and certain gun parts. Bottoms said if it violates the Constitution, it should fall.

His amendment would have required the entire measure to rise or fall as one.

The amendment failed after a standing division vote.

“I would like to apologize to the Constitution for what we just did to it,” Bottoms said.

U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) has reached out to ATF Deputy Director Robert Cekada, urging the repeal of three Biden-era gun regulations. Schmitt argues these rules infringe on the Second Amendment and exceed the ATF's authority, potentially criminalizing law-abiding gun owners.

The proposed repeal includes the Frame or Receiver Rule, which redefines firearm parts kits; the Stabilizing Brace Rule, which expands the definition of rifles under the National Firearms Act; and the Engaged in the Business Rule, which complicates regulations for firearm dealers. Schmitt claims these rules are vague and legally questionable.

A Florida Senate committee chairwoman is blocking legislation that would restore rifle and shotgun purchasing rights to young adults despite the bill passing the state House with a supermajority vote six weeks ago. This move has prompted fierce criticism from gun rights organizations demanding immediate action.

Florida Carry issued an urgent alert on February 26, 2026, calling on Second Amendment supporters to pressure Senate Rules Committee Chair Kathleen Passidomo and Senate President Ben Albritton to allow a vote on House Bill 133. The organization characterized the delay as an unconstitutional obstruction of fundamental rights guaranteed to all adult citizens.

U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Ted Budd (R-NC) yesterday introduced the Stop Illegal Alien Cops Act, which would close a loophole in current law to prohibit illegal aliens from possessing firearms or ammunition provided to them by a government entity, such as a police department:

“No one who enters the U.S. illegally should get to enjoy our God-given constitutional rights, including the right to keep and bear arms,” said Sen. Cornyn. “This bill would close a loophole in current law to ensure illegal aliens cannot possess firearms or ammunition, and I’m glad to support it.”

Additional cosponsors include U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK).

Nigerian farmers have welcomed a proposal linked to the United States Congress recommending that vulnerable farming communities be allowed to defend themselves against violent attacks.

The development follows renewed international attention on Nigeria’s security crisis after former US President Donald Trump redesignated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over persistent killings and displacement of rural communities.

A congressional panel set up by the United States Congress later submitted findings urging stronger action against armed groups operating in farmlands.

Among its recommendations was the removal of militias from occupied farmlands and support for community-based self-defence under strict regulation.

It’s the kind of thing you think only happens in the movies or in the “big city”, and not on a quiet street in Springfield, Ohio. But at 12:56 a.m. Friday, the tranquility of Maiden Lane was shattered by gunfire that turned a local home into a fight for survival.

According to the reports, a 28-year-old man named Anthony Walker Jr. was killed in the 1700 block of Maiden Lane. But this wasn’t just some random act of violence; it was a confrontation that proved exactly why so many of us choose to carry, even when we’re just relaxing at home. The homeowner, faced with a sudden, deadly threat, didn’t have time to wait for a 911 dispatcher to tell him what to do. The intruder reportedly pulled a firearm and fired the first shot.

The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in United States v. Hemani, a 2nd Amendment case that could reshape how federal law treats gun ownership.

Ali Danial Hemani, a Texas man, was indicted after authorities searched his home and reportedly found a Glock 19 pistol, marijuana, and a small amount of cocaine.

Prosecutors charged him under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(3), a federal statute that makes it a felony for anyone who is an “unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance” to possess a firearm. A conviction can carry up to 15 years in prison.

Contemporary debates over firearms regulation in the United States are typically framed in terms of public safety, empirical risk assessment, or constitutional doctrine. Less frequently analyzed, but increasingly consequential, is the role of Social Norm Formation in shaping both domestic firearms policy and judicial reasoning. The process commonly referred to as “Norming” is the gradual establishment of shared assumptions about what forms of civilian firearm possession are socially acceptable, legally permissible, or politically legitimate.

Just when you thought you’d heard it all: warning—reading the teachings of Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand, who just delivered the comedy gold of 2026 at his “Mayor Monday” forum, may cause you to experience dizziness, confusion, and an uncontrollable urge to buy another gun just to spite this level of nonsense. Void of common sense, after a selfdefense police shooting of yet another illegally armed felon, the mayor decides the crisis demands… shaming lawful gun owners.

LaGrand stated, “I think as a community we need to start having some shaming around gun possession.” LaGrand continued, “I think if you’ve got a gun you should be ashamed of yourself. I really do.”

The Court received eight new cert petitions involving Second Amendment issues within the last week. The new cases include challenges to (1) the federal felon-in-possession ban; (2) the constitutionality of state laws that permit suits against members of the firearms industry, purportedly in contravention of PLCAA; (3) Illinois’ open carry ban; and (4) a local ordinance in Oregon that restricts public carry but allows for the affirmative defense of possessing a concealed carry license.

Challenges to semiautomatic weapons bans (Viramontes and National Association for Gun Rights) and LCM bans (Duncan and Gator’s Custom Guns) are scheduled for review at conference today, February 27.

Soon after President Donald Trump took office last year, he issued an executive order proclaiming his steadfast support for the right to bear arms, but a year later, gun rights advocates say the administration has failed to live up to his promises.

Even as the administration has challenged some state firearms laws, it is also defending long-standing federal gun restrictions in court, including one being considered by the Supreme Court on Monday. That case concerns whether users of illegal drugs can be barred from possessing guns.

Gun rights advocates who are challenging those laws say they are frustrated to see the Trump administration defending the restrictions.

A series of bills related to concealed carry and the Second Amendment made the Legislature’s deadline to cross over to the other chamber.

Two bills focus on concealed carry and were sponsored by Rep. Jeremy Haroldson (R-Wheatland).

HB 95 would allow individuals who are authorized to carry concealed weapons without a permit to carry at any public college or university. Concealed carry by a Wyoming-issued permit holder on the University of Wyoming campus is allowed after gun-free zones were repealed this summer. Haroldson said the bill was motivated by calls from students who have concealed carry permits from other states but want to carry on campus in Wyoming.

Colorado lawmakers advanced a bill Friday that would ban the unlicensed manufacture of 3D-printed firearms and their components and restrict the distribution of digital instructions for printing them.

It's a measure born out of two Colorado shootings, but it is drawing pushback from Republicans on both First and Second Amendment grounds.

House Bill 26-1144 advanced on a second reading in the House on Friday after being amended to narrow its scope. The original bill would have banned the possession of 3D-printed firearms and the digital instructions for making them. The amended version focuses on manufacturing and selling.

The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on March 2 over a federal law that bans drug users from buying or possessing firearms, the latest in a string of cases where the conservative-controlled court is positioned to reshape gun control laws nationwide.

The Trump administration asked the justices to overturn a ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, which found that the law infringed on Second Amendment rights.

The law prohibits anyone who is “an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance” from buying or possessing a firearm.

“I think it’s a really good federal floor,” Rep. Phil Rubin, D-Wake County, said. “The ATF regulations cover these gun kits a little bit more, but states like California and Maryland have done increased measures on top of that and have seen the number of ghost guns confiscated drop by like a quarter.”

Rubin and fellow Democratic lawmakers have been pushing for reforms on a state level. There were five gun control bills with ghost gun restrictions presented in the 2023-2024 legislative session, though none received a committee hearing.

Memphis continues to struggle with gun violence, with city data showing dozens of shootings so far this year. Firearms remain at the center of many violent incidents across the Bluff City.

On Saturday, one Memphis church is offering what it calls a different kind of response.

Evergreen Presbyterian Church will host its third annual “Guns to Gardens” safe surrender event from noon to 3 p.m. at Buntyn Presbyterian Church on South Prescott Street.

Organizers say the event provides a safe, anonymous way for people to dispose of firearms they no longer want without involving law enforcement and without putting those guns back into circulation.

House Bill 95, House Bill 96 and House Bill 39, are headed to the Senate floor.

HB 95 would allow “Constitutional carry” of concealed firearms at the University of Wyoming and Wyoming community college campuses. That means people over age 21 who are legally allowed to own firearms could carry them on campuses, with no concealed carry permit required.

HB 96 would lower the minimum age to obtain a Wyoming concealed carry permit from 21 to 18.

Even if both bills pass, open carry of guns on campus would still be banned. Carrying firearms into college sporting events where alcohol is being served would also remain forbidden.

The bill came about five months after lawmakers took heightened security measures following the June assassination of a Democratic Minnesota state lawmaker and her husband. Several legislators also received threats in the wake of the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The regulation approved Thursday says “personal security” expenses can cover the purchases of guns and any related ammunition, training, accessories or permitting fees.

The Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office says a man who fired shots at three people, killing one and injuring two others, at a bar in Allentown last year was justified in his use of force.

The man will not be charged, because he was acting in self-defense and the defense of others during a fight at Big Woody’s at 1410 Hanover Ave. on Dec. 19, according to a news release from the DA’s office.

Multiple people were involved in the fight, and authorities might still file charges in the case, the DA’s office said.
