How to Use Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication for Self Defense

The military has long made use of verbal commands and hand signals in combat, and such means of communication can be equally useful for the armed citizen faced with a life-threatening emergency. When considering a personal-defense plan, people rarely consider the need to communicate with others who may be on your side. Waiting until the bullets start flying to try to come up with signals that can be understood is probably not a very good idea. When dealing with a violent criminal attack, we need to be able to communicate with our partner, both verbally and with hand gestures, in order to present and utilize a united defense.

It’s 2021, and with new state legislative sessions underway, several states are renewing discussions of guns on college campuses. In Montana, H.B. 102 would, in part, “[prohibit] the Montana University System and Board of Regents from infringing on constitutional rights… .” Basically, it would legalize campus carry for those of legal age who have permits. The bill saw broad support from a majority-Republican legislature. It quickly cruised through the House and Senate, and is expected to be signed by Gov. Greg Gianforte (R). Local news outlets reported that the Montana Board of Regents is expected to challenge the law.

First seen in 2020, Heckler & Koch's SP5 pistol is worth a closer look again in 2021, simply because it's as close as American consumers can get to the genuine article that is the MP5 submachine gun, at least without spending a significant amount of money on an NFA-registered example. The H&K SP5 is a semi-automatic, large-format pistol that's built on the same assembly line in the same factory as the real MP5 in Oberndorf, Germany.

Republican Gov. Spencer Cox last week signed popular permitless concealed carry legislation that had been approved by the Utah legislature numerous times with different results. Cox on Friday approved HB 60, which passed the state House 51-20 and state Senate 22-6 earlier this month. The bill retains the Beehive State's well-liked concealed carry permitting system and simply codifies the right for an otherwise lawful adult to have a concealed handgun in public without such a permit.

The NRA would like to thank Governor Cox for his strong commitment to the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding citizens. “There is no reason a law-abiding person should have to ask for permission to carry a firearm for self-defense,” said Jason Ouimet, executive director, NRA-ILA. “The passage of this bill demonstrates Utah’s commitment to protecting the Second Amendment rights of its citizens.” “We thank Gov. Cox, Rep. Brooks, and all who supported this important bill,” Ouimet concluded.
