Elmer Keith, Bill Jordan and Skeeter Skelton – three icons of the firearms industry – designed the .41 Remington Magnum cartridge and introduced it to the shooting public in April of 1964. The ammunition came with two distinct loads: one for law enforcement (those that the cartridge had originally been designed for) and one for hunting.

The gun sales surge accompanying the Chinese conronavirus pandemic is overwhelming both state and federal background check systems. On March 19, 2020, Breitbart News reported National Shooting Sports Foundation numbers showing gun sales in the U.S. had jumped 300 percent above where they were at the same point in time last year. Thereafter, various Federal Firearm License holders (FFLs) contacted Breitbart News to talk of calling into the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Checks (NICS) to do a background check for a pending sale, only to be placed on hold for hours and/or, in some cases, to have the line disconnected.

A concealed-carry-license holder saved himself and potentially several other fellow shoppers at a small convenience store on Saturday morning in Greensboro, N.C. It started when a young man walked into the store and pulled a gun, ordering the shoppers behind the counter. As the robber held everyone at gunpoint, another unsuspecting customer walked into the store. He grabbed the new customer by her neck and began to push her toward the others behind the register.

It was 1955, and the American arms industry had shaken off the constraints of wartime production and returned to satisfying the police and sportsman markets. In the town of Hartford, the iconic, onion-domed Colt plant on the Connecticut River shifted over from building Parkerized military M1911A1s to making polished-blue civilian models.

If the COVID-19 crisis continues beyond your supply of meat, you might find yourself hunting for survival. If you’ve never hunted before, that idea can be daunting. Fortunately, hunting is a fairly simple activity at its core: You go where animals live and you try to kill one or more. But it can seem complicated sometimes, and different species may require different tactics. The good news is that most game can be hunted very simply with just a few basic tactics.

In a move that could have national implications as various state governors issue emergency orders relating to COVID-19 Coronavirus shutdowns, the Second Amendment Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit against New Jersey Gov. Philip Murphy and State Police Supt. Patrick J. Callahan, alleging deprivation of rights under color of law for ordering the closure of firearms stores, and shutting off the state background check mechanism.

Gun stores in Rhode Island are seeing a surge in demand for firearms and ammunition amid the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, Gov. In the face of the uncertainty the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced, many Americans have realized a need for self-reliance, and that includes being able to defend themselves and their families. Accordingly, sales of guns and ammunition are on the rise. The NRA has a wealth of resources available to new gun owners. These focus first on the fundamentals of safety and accuracy, but then, as gun owners increase their knowledge and skills, a host of other topics can be built upon those fundamentals. Sometimes, though, even with so much available—or maybe because so much is available—new gun owners might not know where to start.

When a convergence of technology in the firearms world reached my doorstep, it was a surprise. The combination of a brand-new rifle by Franchi mounted with a 3rd generation Eliminator optic by Burris arrived as I was on my way out the door to participate in a mule deer cull hunt in the mountains of New Mexico. The combination of a new rifle, a new optic and New Mexico mule deer was irresistible.

Turkey hunting is unique in that it’s one of the few shotgun sports requiring an aimed shot. As clays and wingshooters are well aware, you don’t “aim” your shotgun at a moving target; instead, through extensive practice a series of steps are engrained into muscle memory and performed instinctually. These include bringing the shotgun to shoulder as the target is identified, tracking, leading, firing and follow-through. When focusing hard on the fleeing target, the bead is seen in the peripheral. It’s not used to aim.

Who is really winning the Democrats’ presidential nomination fight? The liberals. While the media keeps spinning a tale of “centrists” and “liberals” duking it out for control of the Democratic Party, the truth is that the party’s center of gravity has shifted so far left that they will now nominate the most liberal major party candidate in American history.

Governor Ned Lamont’s recent Executive Order 7H designates firearm and ammunition retail operations as essential businesses, exempting them from being shut down during this state of emergency. This action by Gov. Lamont recognizes that the Second Amendment is the law of the land while other jurisdictions are using the pandemic as an excuse to strip Americans of their fundamental right of self-defense.

A San Diego political action committee promoting Second Amendment rights has condemned county Supervisor Nathan Fletcher’s remark Sunday that retail gun shops are not essential businesses in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. At a coronavirus press briefing, Fletcher said: “We consulted with our county counsel. It is not our belief that gun stores are essential businesses based on the governor’s executive order and, so, therefore, they should not be open in the county of San Diego.”

The city of Bellingham was slated to debate a move to exploit fears over the coronavirus to infringe on our constitutional rights to gun ownership. It was viewed as a coronavirus gun ban. But one Councilmember says that wasn’t the intent. And while the gun language is still part of the law, it’s not actually what’s up for debate.

Original copies of the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights remain on display at the National Archives in our nation’s capital. Many Americans consider that the system of government established by those documents is as strong as the pieces of parchment themselves. Quite the contrary. The system of government bequeathed to us more than 230 years ago – one of defined and limited powers designed above all else to protect individual liberty — is far more fragile than most citizens realize.

After giving residents 30 days to view and comment on a proposed proclamation declaring the county's support for the Second Amendment, the Butts County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the proclamation and will send it to their legislators in the General Assembly. In January, Habersham County became the first county in Georgia to become a "Second Amendment Sanctuary County" after their commissioners approved a resolution prohibiting the county sheriff from enforcing any unconstitutional firearms law against a county resident.

A divided Pennsylvania Supreme Court dismissed a group of gun rights advocates’ legal challenge to Gov. Tom Wolf’s statewide order closing all non-“life-sustaining” businesses, clearing the way for enforcement of the mandate to begin. In an order issued late Sunday, the justices denied a petition brought by a Bucks County gun buyer and a Lancaster County gun store owner, who argued that the coronavirus clampdown violated their Second Amendment right to bear arms.

The media has recently made much ado about prosecutions being dismissed involving AR-15 lower receivers. The Gun Control Act (GCA) regulates “firearms,” which are defined to include a “frame or receiver,” not half a frame or receiver. An Associated Press report quoted me on January 13 saying that “now the cat is out of the bag” because courts are awakening to the fact that a lower receiver doesn’t meet the legal definition of a “receiver.” The cat should have never been in the bag in the first place.

Invariably, when Americans feel threatened at an existential level, they buy weapons. That's because existential threats prove the truth in the saying that, when seconds count, the police are minutes away. Americans are currently worried that coronavirus will leave America’s normal infrastructure in tatters.

Many people wanted to believe that they'd be safer if they were unarmed. Our experience with armed citizens says otherwise, and so do recent headlines.

Many people who were only vaguely aware of self-defense now see the need for a personal firearm. I'm sorry, but for many of you it is too late to become armed defenders. Here is what you do.
