A stabbing in southeast Fresno is being called a case of self-defense.
It happened before 11 pm Thursday at a home on Dearing and Huntington near Chestnut Avenue.
Police say the person known as the original victim in the case turned out to be the aggressor.
Officers did not give details on what led to the incident, but we're told that person who then turned out to be the victim was able to protect himself from the suspect. |

Assault charges have been dismissed against a landscaper who was arrested in a widely circulated video showing a confrontation with a postal worker in Harris County earlier this year. Now, the family of Margarita Avila is calling for her release from federal immigration custody.
Avila was arrested in March after she allegedly injured a postal worker with a weed eater while landscaping near a community mailbox. The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office charged her with assault after the incident, which was partially caught on video. Her family has consistently maintained that she acted in self-defense. |

Georgia Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch will seek the Republican nomination to run for lieutenant governor next year.
Gooch, R-Dahlonega, announced his candidacy Wednesday in a press release, describing himself as "unapologetically pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, and pro-school choice."
"Georgia deserves bold leadership that will stand up to the insanity of the Democrat Party, protect our families from the invasion of criminal illegal aliens and keep our economy vibrant and strong," Gooch said. |

Two New York lawmakers are calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate state-level gun control measures they argue are unconstitutional.
On May 15, 2025, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) sent a formal letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. She requested that the DOJ investigate whether New York State’s firearm laws violate constitutional protections. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (NY-21) also signed the letter. |

Massachusetts brown shirts have coordinated a campaign to keep a sweeping Second Amendment infringement on the books when it comes up for voters to decide its fate next year. The “Vote Yes for a Safe MA” ballot question committee missed the boat on a more suitable moniker, “Abhorrent Seditious Sheep Have Only Limited Education,” which would have secured the organization what is arguably a wholly appropriate acronym, but I digress. |

The U.S. Department of Justice is being called upon to investigate New York’s gun laws.
In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney and Congresswoman Elise Stefanik urge the DOJ to investigate what they claim are “New York State’s infringement of New Yorkers’ Second Amendment rights.” The Republican lawmakers say New York’s restrictions violate Supreme Court precedents, including a categorical ban on commonly owned semi-automatic rifles, licensing and registration of constitutionally protected arms, and an arbitrary cap on magazine capacity. |

Mark Smith, a constitutional attorney and Supreme Court Bar member, didn’t hold back. “I’m angry with the Republicans,” he said flatly in his video. “They are utterly incompetent when it comes to negotiating and getting things done that actually advance the Second Amendment.” Smith pointed out that Republicans had the upper hand. They controlled the House and Senate, albeit by narrow margins, yet couldn’t even push through a basic safety device exemption. |

On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Buckeye Firearms Association (BFA) again testified before the Ohio House Judiciary Committee in support of House Bill 5, which aims to restore Second Amendment rights to nonviolent offenders who have repaid their debt to society and have demonstrated a commitment to leading a productive life.
This issue has persisted for years yet could be remedied with a few straightforward adjustments to Ohio law. BFA has worked closely with the bill’s sponsors — state Reps. Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Township) and Bernard Willis (R-Springfield) — dedicating considerable effort to crafting legislation capable of passing both the House and Senate. |

Penn, a former U.S. Army officer who deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq, sought the House seat and defeated Rep. Michael Capps in the August 2020 primary. Capps was politically damaged by reports that he conspired with other Sedgwick County Republicans to damage the reputation of the Wichita mayor and engaged in a recorded conversation about how to conceal their involvement.
Penn was a persistent advocate for the Second Amendment right to bear arms and sought passage of legislation that introduced firearm training to elementary students.

The Democratic National Committee can say whatever they want about calling for a new election which could replace gun ban activist David Hogg as vice chair, but the fact remains he quickly became a pain in the political neck and everybody knows it, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said.
Hogg has been in office less than six months and he has already started a civil war within the party which veteran strategist James Carville was smart enough to take out of the public light. Hogg announced plans to spend some $20 million to primary older Democrat incumbents in safe congressional districts, in an effort to attract younger activists back to the party. |

The Texas House of Representatives has passed several bills aimed at strengthening Second Amendment protections as it approaches a critical legislative deadline. Among the proposals is House Bill 3053, authored by Rep. Wes Virdell, which prohibits local governments from executing firearm buyback programs designed to reduce gun ownership, citing studies that suggest such initiatives do not effectively deter crime. |

A svelte (just 0.87 inches across the slide) sub-compact with a 10+1 shot magazine, it proved popular to many for everyday carry use, especially when the optics-ready MOS version was introduced in August 2020.
At the time, I preferred the slightly larger and (double stack) Gen3 G19 and continued to carry that gun for years, content to let the G48 slide on by.
Now, paired with a new optics footprint that allows direct mounting (no plates to work loose) and the purpose-made Aimpoint COA enclosed red dot, the new G48 has my full attention. |

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about having multiple carry setups and why you may need more than just your regular everyday carry. If you happen to miss that article, be sure to click the link here to check it out. This week, I wanted to look at some of the more interesting carry guns that I still enjoy carrying. They may not be the most modern option, but they are still great firearms in their own way. I read articles constantly about the latest and greatest firearms, but are the older firearms still proficient? Let's take a closer look at modern vs older carry guns. |

Marion Hammer was once a famous face fiercely fighting against firearm regulation for the National Rifle Association (NRA). Now, Hammer and the NRA are firing shots at each other over money.
Hammer has sued the NRA in federal court and is accusing the group of breaching her contract, smearing her reputation, and more, as their 45-year history of working together breaks down.
“Now after giving the fruits of her life’s labor to the NRA, she has been abandoned by the very association she’s so fearlessly defended,” reads her complaint that was filed in the Northern District of Florida. “As she has her entire life, Marion Hammer will now vindicate her rights.” |

Imagine if your freedom of speech applied only with a store owner’s express permission, or if your right to worship disappeared the moment you entered a public park. That’s the logic behind a Hawaii law that bans gun carry preemptively on private property and in so-called “sensitive places” like restaurants and beaches.
This isn’t speculation. It’s reality for residents and travelers in Hawaii, where a recent state law, now upheld by the Ninth Circuit, rewrites the Second Amendment as a conditional privilege. Under Act 52, law-abiding citizens must secure prior authorization to exercise a constitutional right in places as ordinary as a public park or a restaurant. |
