Okay, so it was one of those conversations which “never happened,” didn’t involve alcohol, and it boiled down to this: If you absolutely, positively had to boogie down Broadway in a complete societal collapse, what guns might you want to have along for the ride?
There are criteria for the selection process, of course. We’re not talking about the late John Taffin’s wonderful treatise on “Perfect Packin’ Pistols” a couple of years ago. We are talking about practicality. |

When it comes to carrying a firearm for personal defense, many people assume that their handgun’s standard capacity is enough. Whether it’s 15+1 in a compact semi-auto or 6 rounds in a revolver, there’s a dangerous mindset that “if I can’t stop a threat with that, nothing will.” But this logic misses a critical point: a firearm without spare ammunition is a temporary tool. Once it’s empty – or worse, malfunctions – it’s little more than dead weight. Carrying a gun is about preparedness, and preparedness means having the ability to stay in the fight if things don’t go as planned. |

Although it costs more than bargain-priced guns, today’s Winchester’s Model 70 is a great rifle at any price. The author downed this Texas hog with his Model 70 Featherweight chambered in 270 Win. Mike Dickerson
Gun sales have soared to record levels this year, driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and widespread civil unrest. Many first-time purchasers, bewildered by their first trip to a gun store, are unfamiliar with federal and state legalities or have limited firearms knowledge, and some retail store clerks may provide less-than-reliable information. |

Colorado’s Governor Polis, one of those guys who has never seen a gun control measure he didn’t adore, recently signed a bill into law expanding the list of crimes that fall under the state’s Possession of Weapon by Previous Offender (POWPO) statute. House Bill 25-1171, signed into law Monday, May 19, prohibits those convicted in Colorado of first-degree car theft from owning or possessing a firearm.
The POWPO is a growing list of offenses by which Colorado deems its citizens ineligible to own a firearm legally with one or more qualifying convictions. |

An eastern Colorado county has passed a resolution declaring itself a “Second Amendment Sanctuary” in opposition to a bill passed by the legislature this year that requires individuals to participate in safety training to be eligible to purchase certain types of firearms.
On May 15, the Bent County Board of Commissioners and Bent County Sheriff unanimously passed a resolution declaring that no county resources will be used to enforce provisions of Senate Bill 003 that have not been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. |

American gun owners may be one step away from national constitutional carry nationwide. Pro-Second Amendment Congressman from North Carolina Richard Hudson has introduced House Resolution 38, in the U.S. House of Representatives: “The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.”
HR 38 must be attached to a “must pass” spending bill to ensure our constitutional right to keep and bear arms is finally enshrined in federal law. HR 38 could make it through the House of Representatives by a slim majority on its own, only to be filibustered and killed by the Democrats in the Senate. Thus HR 38 must be attached to a “must pass” budget bill. |

The U.S. House of Representatives worked Wednesday night into Thursday to pass H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
The bill included language that Second Amendment advocates nationwide, including in BamaCarry, which bills itself as Alabama’s only “No Compromise” gun rights group, are supporting.
U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) initially included the elimination of a $200 transfer tax on gun suppressors in the bill. However, late Wednesday night, as talks went on, he was able to remove them from the regulatory purview of the National Firearms Act (NFA) altogether. |

In a recent opinion piece, advocates are urging President Trump to appoint a dedicated Second Amendment Czar to enforce gun rights across the federal government. The call comes after claims that the Department of Justice has disregarded Trump’s executive order affirming the Second Amendment as essential to liberty by supporting legal positions that could restrict gun ownership further. |

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill that would remove gun silencers, also known as suppressors, from the strictures of the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934.
The provision, part of a broader budget reconciliation measure known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (H.R. 1), aims to eliminate the current $200 tax and federal registration requirements for these devices. The vote has drawn sharply divided reactions, with several Florida lawmakers supporting the bill. |

An Illinois bill that purportedly targets responsible firearms ownership is nothing more than just another way for the government to chisel more money from the hands of lawful firearm industry members in the Prairie State.
House Bill 3320 is called the “Responsibility in Firearm Legislation (RIFL) Act.” But according to the Citizens Committee to Keep and Bear Arms (CCKRB), instead of having anything to do with responsible gun ownership, the measure would require law-abiding gun makers and gun sellers to pay a fee that would go toward programs helping victims of so-called “gun violence,” actually criminal violence. |

Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson on May 20 signed into law a controversial policy requiring gun buyers to first pay for a new state permit.
Starting in two years, House Bill 1163 will require those interested in purchasing guns to apply for a five-year permit through the Washington State Patrol. Applicants must pay a fee and have completed a certified firearms safety training program within the past five years, with limited exceptions.
“Gun violence in Washington state breaks apart too many families and kills too many children,” Ferguson said. “We must put commonsense reforms into place that save lives.” |
