After Bank of America announced it will no longer finance manufacturers that make “firearms with military characteristics … for non-law enforcement, non-military use,” The Wall Street Journal reported that bank and credit-card companies are talking about a lot more than refusing to do business with certain gun manufacturers. “Banks and credit-card companies are discussing ways to identify purchases of guns in their payment systems,” said the Journal.

I pull the trigger. There is a sharp cracking sound, and the stock kicks into my shoulder. Fifty feet in front of me, the paper target shudders, punctured with another bullet-hole. I'm shooting too low, punching a cluster of shots just beneath the three-inch-wide orange circle at which I'm aiming. It has been years since I last shot a gun, and I've never used one like this.

About the only merchandise Dick’s Sporting Goods sells that you can’t also find on Amazon are guns.

And yet the major retailer of athletic and outdoor gear is turning on that captive customer base, throwing its lot in with advocates for tighter gun control laws.

Dick’s recently hired three Washington lobbyists — two Democrats and one Republican — to pressure Congress to pass more stringent regulations on guns.

The company was sent reeling in February when it was learned the teenaged Parkland, Fla., high school shooter had purchased his AR-15 semi-automatic rifle at one of its stores.

Liberals forget that we all want the same thing in the gun-rights debate, we all want to save lives. The question is how to best accomplish that goal.

With Bloomberg and his cronies pour millions into the movement to take away our guns it is no wonder that many Americans believe the only way to accomplish this goal is to take away the guns from law abiding citizens.

February’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., which left 17 dead and 17 more wounded, horrified people across the country, spurring student walkouts and marches in support of stricter gun control laws, including universal, comprehensive background checks and a ban on assault weapons. But gun debates in the United States have proven to be contentious and intractable. Even as thousands rally for new legislation, opponents contend that such measures won’t prevent determined criminals from obtaining a firearm and that responsible gun ownership makes communities safer.

Graduating computer science major Luke Strgar thinks he might have a solution for the fraught issue of guns in America: Use blockchain to track gun sales in America. Strgar thinks that Blockchain, a complex, sometimes bewildering, secure, de-centralized electronic bookkeeping method that underpins things like Bitcoin, offers the perfect balance between security, anonymity and scale that could please all sides of the gun-control debate.

The message behind a new art exhibit in downtown Chicago is that buying an AR-15-style rifle is as easy as renting a bicycle. As it turns out, that couldn’t be further from the truth, especially in Chicago. But to make its point, the exhibit features replicas of AR-15’s sitting in a station that looks like a bike rental rack, reported IJR Red, a conservative news and commentary website.

Keyvan Shovir had never touched a gun before. The East Bay artist took some time before deciding to apply for the Art of Peace project because of a reluctance to touch a weapon of destruction. The Iranian native created a piece of art for the project called “Simorgh,” roughly translated as “30 birds.” The sculpture is created from 30 hand- and machine-made birdhouses formed from pieces of guns. Painted white, the piece rises from the floor toward the sky with silk flowers coming out of the gun barrels.

Arkansas college administrators say guns haven't caused any notable problems since being allowed on school grounds, but some lawmakers and police are still concerned about campus safety. The college semester currently finishing up is the first since state firearms instructors began offering courses for new enhanced concealed-carry licenses. The permits result from a law passed last year and allow guns at public colleges and other public places previously off limits.

The field of military small arms is an underappreciated but important one. Although not as sexy as nuclear weapons, fighter jets or tanks, battle rifles, assault rifles, and machine guns have killed far more people and been involved in the forced transfer of more real estate than any other weapon—particularly in the so-called Third World.rm.

Expect your shots in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness to be long, possibly across a canyon like mine. Contrary to conventional wisdom, black bears are not hard to kill. You don’t need a magnum to put them down but a flat-shooting rifle can help you reach out more easily. Because I don’t like carrying any more weight than necessary, and because I thought I might need to take a snap shot at a wolf, my Steyr Scout Rifle accompanied me on this hunt. Perhaps the greatest attribute of Megan Jones is that she is so unreservedly, unequivocally unreasonable. It seems to be working. Since 2015 Jones, 25, has driven regularly from her home in Lawrence to Topeka, the state capital. On most days, it must seem an absurd trek. Her self-appointed, unpaid task is to persuade Kansas’ Republican legislators to sidestep the conservative craze of guns-anywhere-for-anybody-for-any-reason-or-actually-no-reason-whatsoever.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. — James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46
