We don't talk about it much, but most people defend themselves without much training. The good guys win because they cheat.

They survived an attack because they avoided a fair fight. You survive because you shoot when you can see them and the bad guys can’t see you. You shoot when the bad guys are distracted and not looking at you.

Declaring the Second Amendment “is color-blind,” the Second Amendment Foundation has launched an ambitious project to “remind America that the right to keep and bear arms is all-inclusive” and suggested its attorneys will take a hard look at any allegations of discrimination against minorities seeking to purchase or carry firearms legally for personal protection.

“No law-abiding citizen should ever be denied the right to purchase a firearm or get a license to carry due to the color of their skin,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb.

A 61-year-old pastor and military veteran called 911 after he said a mob of people threatened him. But when law enforcement showed up, they handcuffed him and hauled him off to jail.

It's a story heard all too often, and one of the reasons why millions of people are marching across the world.

Shenandoah County Sheriff Tim Carter said it should not have happened that way. Shortly after WUSA9 talked to him Wednesday, he spoke again to the Commonwealth's Attorney, and nine days after Leon McCray was arrested, Carter said that the prosecutor has agreed to drop the charge against him.

The Associated Press reports the issue before the court is whether Ted Wafer's constitutional rights against double jeopardy were violated when he was convicted of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of 19-year-old Renisha McBride.

Wafer's attorney argues that murder and manslaughter contradict each other because murder requires malice while manslaughter doesn't under Michigan law.

If the Supreme Court agrees with Wafer, he likely would be eligible for a new sentence because his sentencing guidelines for murder were enhanced by the manslaughter conviction.

On May 25, a white police officer named Derek Chauvin brutally killed George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, in Minneapolis. His death has triggered protests against police brutality and racism in over 75 cities around America and internationally. As the police continue to inflict violence at and outside of these protests, self-defense weapons have risen among Amazon’s ($NASDAQ:AMZN) best-selling products.

On May 16, pocket knives were ranked at 96 on the best-sellers list. As of yesterday, pocket knives have jumped up to the top ten with an average sales rank of 9.5. The last time pocket knives were in the top ten was July 2019. (A lower data point signifies a higher sales rank.)

William A. Brewer III certainly has the look of a power attorney. And he enjoys name recognition in the legal world. But does he have the clout to rein in the Attorney General of New York?

National Rifle Association boss Wayne LaPierre apparently thought so, according to recent court filings in which LaPierre is said to have touted Brewer’s “key relationships” in the state.

From their rhetoric, I believe they felt the tyranny would arise from a Democratic president rather than a far-right Republican president, but this is the situation in which we find ourselves.

So, what are gun-rights supporters to do now? Since Trump said he was mobilizing the military in part to protect their Second Amendment rights, do they form their own militia to dominate protesters throughout the country, whether peaceful or not? Or do they use their weapons to fight against this tyrannical Trump government?

As a libertarian, Doane believes that everyone has the right to bear arms. Recent protests nationwide of the killing of George Floyd is evidence that people don’t trust the government to keep them safe, he said.

“I’m a big advocate for the Second Amendment,” he said. “I know that police officers are not necessarily always going to come to my aid or they may be individuals who will try to harm me.”

Doane said he stands with the people protesting Floyd’s killing. He also supports ending the war on drugs, ending qualified immunity and the federal legalization of marijuana.

Please tell us you know that deadly force can not be used to defend property.

Please tell us you understand that the only legal justification for drawing a weapon and using it is in the defense of your own life or the lives of other innocents.

You can’t draw a gun on a graffiti artist.

You can’t use your AR-15 to stop the proverbial brick through the insured plate glass window.

You can’t use your semi-automatic against looters (unless, of course, you’re defending your own property).

Scott Jones, NRA state director for Missouri, denies that there is a loophole.

“Federal law prevents domestic violence offenders from possessing firearms, and no state law can overrule that,” Jones wrote. “Claiming Senate Bill 656 provided domestic violence offenders with a loophole to purchase firearms is yet another example of the lies or ignorance of gun control zealots.”

It is true that the federal law prevents domestic violence offenders from possessing firearms. However, Paula Rector, a senior instructor of criminology and criminal justice at Missouri State University, said Missouri law contradicts federal law — and this plays out in local courts.

Yesterday, Governor Ralph Northam announced a trio of appointments to the Virginia State Crime Commission, including Norfolk Police Chief Larry Boone and Lori Haas, Virginia State Director for a national gun ban group called the "Coalition to Stop Gun Violence."

Haas, a registered lobbyist for a group originally named "National Coalition to Ban Handguns," has pushed an extremist agenda for decades opposing the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens in all aspects. In April, Haas appeared on the podcast Transition Virginia, calling for gun bans and threatening to end Virginia's conceal carry program.

Gun rights advocates are organizing a protest and calling for Lewiston City Councilor Bob Blakey to be removed from office.

The advocates, led by Heather Rogers, carried out a show-of-force protest in which its members patrolled downtown Lewiston on Saturday during and after a nearby Black Lives Matter protest. They came under fire at Monday’s city council meeting, where several citizens said they were unnerved and intimidated by the presence of the gun rights protesters, many of whom carried semiautomatic rifles, stating they were there to protect businesses from would-be Antifa looters.

If you take away police, can we at least keep our guns? That's the question many Second Amendment advocates are now asking.

According to Dr. Derek Cohen with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, since the Civil War, the Second Amendment has gained more ground in the black community than anywhere else. He says blacks should embrace their right to bear arms.

“I'm not saying that means arm themselves against the police. I'm not calling for any sort of radical action like that. But they should be able to protect their communities. We've seen this in the Korean community in the 1992 riots,” he says.

For more than a month, most of the relist action has featured big knots of relists involving just two blockbuster issues — challenges to qualified immunity and Second Amendment challenges to firearm regulations and not much else. This week, as the Supreme Court faces the end of the term in about a month, there is a decided uptick in the variety of cases that are being seriously considered for plenary review. And they consist of six cases that are (at least kinda sorta) sequels to recent Supreme Court decisions.
