On Sunday, Des Moines police officers responded to an active shooter alert coming over dispatch as reports came in of a gunshot at Hy-Vee on Euclid Avenue.

Once police got to the store and controlled the scene, witness testimony and video camera footage would fill in the blanks of an altercation between two women which left two people shot.

The shooter was also the victim, standing her ground as Kapri Lashawn Francis, 30, allegedly initiated a violent assault against the victim without provocation. After a scuffle the victim fired from her lawfully possessed firearm, hitting Francis in the leg and a bystander. Both were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Two North Idaho hunters shot and killed a grizzly bear in self-defense earlier this month.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game says the hunters were looking for black bears and had recently harvested one in the Ruby Creek drainage. They were retrieving the harvested black bear when the grizzly bear approached them.

The bear continued to approach them when one of the hunters shot and killed the sub-adult male.

After an investigation, officers determined that the bear was shot in self-defense.

The phrase “the people” everywhere else in the Bill of Rights refers to individual citizens. The people may be called upon to employ their private arms in the collective defense of state or nation, and that collective defense should be “well-regulated” in the sense that the militia should be trained, organized, and efficient. But far from being “well-regulated,” the underlying individual right “shall not be infringed.”

Meanwhile, it is not the Second Amendment that was historically racist, but gun control laws that stripped certain segments of the population of any meaningful method of defending their rights. The fact that slaves were disarmed belies Press’ point—

In May, a South Philadelphia man stepped out of his house for a smoke when police said a gun-wielding man rode upon a bicycleand demanded money. The homeowner dropped his cigarette, pulled out his licensed gun and fatally shot the would-be robber in the head.

In March, an assistant manager at a Dollar General store in North Philadelphia used his legal gun to shoot a man who police said burst into the store in a ski mask, demanded money and threatened to kill the cashier. “I’m opening up the register for you, sir,” said the manager, who instead pulled his own handgun and shot the robber in the head, killing him.

Two teenagers got more than they bargained for when they broke into a Connecticut man’s home last week.

According to the police, two teenagers, 16 and 15 years old, forced their way into a man’s home right before midnight last Wednesday. Once inside, the two teenagers attacked the homeowner. He was then able to fire multiple shots hitting both suspects.

Neighbors woke to the sound of gunshots. One said he heard three or four shots, and by the time he went outside, the police were already on the scene. When the police arrived, they found the two suspects wounded. They were transported to the hospital, where they were both pronounced dead. The homeowner had minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

A decision in the U.S. Supreme Court’s biggest gun rights case in over a decade is expected to land any day now.

The closely-watched case, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v Bruen, addresses whether New York state’s concealed carry law violates the Second Amendment.

It is the most significant case regarding the Second Amendment since the high court affirmed the right to bear arms with its 2010 decision rendering Chicago’s nearly 30-year ban on handgun ownership unconstitutional.

“There’s been a big push to get more Second Amendment cases before the courts because many people believe that the lower courts were not being faithful to the Supreme Court’s decision in 2010...

Many people calling for further restriction of our Second Amendment rights lack, or pretend to lack, knowledge of the subject.

The Constitution of Pennsylvania clearly states: “The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.” It does not say: “The right of the people to bear single-shot muzzle-loading muskets ... shall not be questioned.”

Most ducks and geese (etc.) are harvested with semi-auto shotguns. Federal law prohibits shooting waterfowl with any rifle. Semi-auto modern sporting rifles are used for hunting non-game species in Pennsylvania, but are legal for deer hunting in many other states, including nearby West Virginia.

On May 30, 2020, at about 11 PM, during the George Floyd riots, Jaleel Stallings fired in the direction of people in an unmarked van who had fired at him. They said nothing before opening fire. Jaleel felt a round hit him before he fired back. They turned out to be police, who were shooting rubber bullets.

When Jaleel realized they were police, he stopped firing, very quickly, and surrendered. He had fired less than five shots. The shooting was over in seconds. Jaleel was severely beaten, even though he did not resist.

Rachel Bloomekatz, an Ohio public interest lawyer nominated by President Joe Biden to the Cincinnati, Ohio-based 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, told the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee she would follow the U.S. Supreme Court's "very clear" precedents supporting gun rights.

But Republicans zeroed-in on her work on behalf of Everytown Law, the legal arm of Everytown for Gun Safety, defending gun safety ordinances and challenging an Ohio school district's decision to allow teachers to be armed.

"How do you divorce your personal views on gun control from your work as a federal judge?" Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee asked.

The reason behind the ‘Right to Bear Arms’

“…[H}istory showed that the way tyrants had eliminated a militia consisting of all the able-bodied men was not by banning the militia but simply by taking away the peoples arms, enabling a select militia or standing army to suppress political opponents. This is what had occurred in England that prompted codification of the right to have arms in the English Bill of Rights.

“{It} was understood across the political spectrum that the right helped secure the ideal of a citizen militia, which might be necessary lo oppose an oppressive military force if the constitutional order broke down.”

One does not need to be a history buff to know that in colonial days, the average British soldier carried a muzzle loading flintlock gun.

For some reason, the editor of the Trinity Journal has chosen to run a pro-gun-control guest column written by a college professor from Georgia. This in a county filled with gun owners who practically never shoot each other.

Naturally, his focus is on school shootings, which are truly horrible, and always thoroughly well-reported. He does not mention the hundreds of thousands of annual instances of gun use in self-defense in this country. These are never reported in the mainstream media, either.

Still, school shootings, rare as they are, are terrible and should be prevented, if possible. Dr. Levin mentions background checks. In theory, this sounds reasonable. Keep guns out of the hands of violent criminals, right?

"The guy looked like he was a homeless person. Basically, they told him to just let go of the jeans or we’ll call the police," a witness said. After the suspect left Suit Mart, he entered the gun store with a "sharp object," police said. He opened the cash register and stole money. An employee told police he shot the suspect in self-defense.

"Once he went (the gun shop), he actually went behind the counter (and) started ruffling through the cash register. He was confronted by one of the employees, at that point, one of the employees felt in fear of their safety and fired two shots, at least one struck," Houston Police Department Lieutenant Larry Crowson said.

New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc., v. Bruen is the court's biggest gun control case since 2008, when it ruled that the Second Amendment guaranteed individuals the right to have a gun at home for self-defense.

Now, the court is considering whether states can regulate an individual's ability to carry a gun outside the home.

The case concerns a New York state law that requires New Yorkers to show a "proper cause" – some sort of special need different from the general public – in order to qualify for an unrestricted license to carry a concealed firearm outside their home.

An Eatonton man is now free after he recently was acquitted on felony criminal charges stemming from a shooting that wounded two people in Hancock County back on Labor Day weekend 2019.

The woman who was wounded and lost most of her sight in both eyes was the former girlfriend of the man who had been on trial for the crimes, according to Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Assistant District Attorney Faith Worley.

“They began dating at the end of November 2018 and they were broken up by June 2019,” Worley said.

After trial testimony and closing arguments, jurors deliberated about 90 minutes before returning a not guilty verdict against the defendant on all counts.

Joy Behar of ABC’s The View appears to possess an ignorant view of African-Americans and their desire for the God-given right to safety. It seems to border on bigotry. Sadly, it’s a pattern for Behar.

“Here’s the thing: once Black people get guns in this country, the gun laws will change. Trust me,” Behar said recently on the show, raising her voice over Black guest host and gun owner Lindsey Granger. Granger was explaining Black gun ownership and audience laughter and agreement with Behar was clearly audible.

Granger’s expression, however, says something different.

Popular podcaster Joe Rogan weighed in on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his move to strip law-abiding gun owners of their right to protect themselves, the latest fascistic move by the left-wing dictator north of the border.

The authoritarian leader followed up his brutal crackdown on truckers who protested his vaccine mandates by moving to ban handguns in a response to the horrific massacre at a Texas elementary school last month, then declaring that Canadians have no right to use a gun for self-defense, a statement made at a time when violent crime is raging and police are increasingly restrained by liberal politicians.

Over a decade ago, Rick Ector from Legally Armed In Detroit (LAID) and Rick’s Firearm Academy of Detroit, embarked on a journey that turned into a fulfilling passion.

I had a chance to catch up with Ector and talk to him about his upcoming woman’s shooting event in July. Ector is celebrating the 11th year that he’s been putting on this 100% free to participants educational program, and hopes to add more numbers to the many thousands of women he’s already trained with his team. One of the things that always struck me as interesting, was the genesis story of the woman’s shooting event. Ector explained some of that to me:

The Bipartisan Senate Gun Control Bill Would Unjustly Deprive Americans of Their Second Amendment Rights

The bill, which is the product of negotiations between Democrats and Republicans who want to be seen as doing something to prevent mass shootings and other kinds of gun violence, purports to achieve that goal without sacrificing Second Amendment rights. But the bill's details raise serious questions about its effectiveness and fairness. It pays lip service to civil liberties while canceling the gun rights of adults based on juvenile records, and it subsidizes state laws that suspend those rights without due process.

The Senate’s bipartisan gun reform legislation is facing pushback from top Republicans in the House despite the measure having the blessing of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), with House GOP leadership planning to whip against the bill.

While McConnell was one of 14 GOP lawmakers who voted to advance the measure in the upper chamber, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (LA) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA) told members they would not back the bill and encouraged them to follow suit during a GOP conference meeting Wednesday morning.

However, the history of the Second Amendment contradicts these claims. States opposed to slavery, like Vermont, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island, had precursor state constitutional provisions recognizing the right to bear arms. In his famous 1770 defense of Capt. Thomas Preston in the Boston Massacre trial, John Adams declared that British soldiers had a right to defend themselves since “here every private person is authorized to arm himself.” His second cousin and co-Founding Father, Samuel Adams, was vehemently anti-slavery and equally supportive of the right to bear arms.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., on "America Reports" Wednesday defended her decision not to vote in favor of bipartisan gun reform legislation that cleared an initial Senate vote Tuesday. No. 2 House Republican Steve Scalise will also whip Republicans to vote "no" against the bill, his spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

SEN. MARSHA BLACKBURN: Because the Second Amendment is not negotiable. It is not a suggestion. It is a right. And I'm not going to support anything that is going to infringe on a law-abiding citizen's Second Amendment rights.
