A St. Joseph woman will not be charged in the shooting death of her husband because she was acting in self-defense, the Buchanan County Prosecutor said Friday.
Dawn Applegarth admitted to shooting her husband, Mark Applegarth, 60, at their home on May 7, authorities said.
Prosecutor Ron Holliday said investigators determined the shooting occurred because of domestic violence and Dawn Applegarth was in fear for her life or serious injury at the time. |

At around 3 a.m. on Friday morning, Redding police (RPD) received a call from Robert Keo, owner of Lucky Donuts, saying he had shot a man in self-defense after the man tried to rob him. The suspect would also be connected to a stolen truck he later set on fire.
Keo told police the suspect's truck slammed into his back door and tore it off of its hinges. The man then entered through the opening created by the crash. In the police report, Keo said he feared for his life and warned the suspect to leave his shop. |

It will probably take society a little while to get used to the idea of someone sitting on a park bench reading a newspaper. Not because nobody reads the newspaper anymore, but because this person is wearing a tactical vest and has a holstered gun at their side. It's not illegal to do any of those things. You don't need a permit to read the paper or play make-believe soldier all dressed up in your super cool tactical gear. You also don't need to have a permit to carry that gun either. |

ABC News is launching another attack on gun rights, starting Sunday. Its project, called “One Nation Under Fire”, will join with ABC affiliates across the country as well as with Good Morning America and GMA3. Variety, which made the announcement, breathlessly rejoiced that “various ABC-owned stations may also contribute their own reports on findings in their area of coverage.”
So, what will ABC News be using as its source to back up the attack? False data from the Gun Violence Archive, long considered to be biased in favor of more gun regulations and controls. |

The town of Washburn is planning to hold a public hearing on a resolution that would designate the town a ‘second amendment sanctuary’, to be held at a yet-to-be determined date.
The Washburn town council voted July 12 to set a date for the resolution hearing. But the actual hearing itself may not take place until the fall, according to Town Manager Donna Turner.
“We were hoping it was going to be in August, but I don’t think we’re going to be able to do it probably until September,” Turner said. “I’m right in the middle of tax commitments and getting tax bills sent out. That’s my number one priority right now.” |

That means New Yorkers must distinguish themselves from their fellow citizens and be rationed a constitutional right by bureaucrats. In New York, gun licenses are restricted, expensive and the process is riddled with politics and bribery, making licenses inaccessible to most. This led to the judicial saga now before the U.S. Supreme Court of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association (NYSRPA) v. Corlett and a fundamental question for the Court to answer — is the Second Amendment a right of the people, or a privilege of the elite? |

Jumping into the scholarly literature on guns and gun violence in the United States can be intimidating, both because of the range of disciplines that address the subject and because of the intensity of debate over a few contentious questions. A non-exhaustive list of fields contributing to “US gun studies” would include not only my own field of history but also public policy, legal studies, criminology, sociology, political science, literature, and public health. |

It’s that time again folks, as the Seventh Conference of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) will take place August 30 to September 3 (2021) in Geneva, Switzerland.
But let’s first deal with the sitting Democrat Whitehouse Resident Joe Biden, and let’s ask how the U.S. Senate might give Advice & Consent to the treaty. Will Biden re-sign onto the ATT? After all, the “pushing for the ratification of the Arms Trade treaty” is part of the Democrat platform. It’s a good bet that he will re-sign onto it.
Will the Senate give its approval so Biden can make the U.S. a Signatory State? Probably not, because our Constitution requires a two-thirds vote, of the Senate, when it comes to treaties. |

A group of GOP lawmakers is threatening to introduce an impeachment resolution against President Biden’s nominee to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, David Chipman, if he is confirmed by the Senate.
The House of Representatives conservatives, led by Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mt.), accused Chipman, who previously served as a senior policy adviser at the Giffords Organization, “high crimes and misdemeanors based on the grounds found in two distinct articles.” |

Currently, he said, more than 60% of all Michigan counties have declared themselves Second Amendment Sanctuaries, but the number would be much higher if Facebook hadn’t scuttled the movement.
“Michigan was on a roll. They were killing it in terms of creating Second Amendment Sanctuaries. Michigan was going to be the next Kentucky, and then Facebook shut them down. Not only did they shut down their main page, they shut down their sub groups and personal pages too – killing family photos and decades of personal posts,” Davis said Friday. “They completely gutted their command and control, and 100,000 Michiganders who were working in concert to spread the Second Amendment Sanctuary movement were shut off overnight.” |

The real Joe Biden has finally stood up, revealing during a CNN Townhall that he is “continuing to push to eliminate the sale” of guns that can fire multiple rounds, “whether it’s a 9mm pistol or whether it’s a rifle” and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms says enough is enough.
“It’s taken Joe Biden six short months to foul up the economy, reverse this country’s energy independence causing fuel prices to soar, declare war on free speech and now he has acknowledged in a Freudian slip he really does want to ban handguns,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “The real Joe Biden is finally out of the bag, despite the media’s continued efforts to soft-peddle his extremism.” |

The shooting happened just after midnight in the 4100 block of Hoffman Drive, police said.

A major gun-rights challenge originating in upstate New York and headed to the U.S. Supreme Court has drawn the backing of numerous Republican U.S. senators and House members.
The friend-of-the-court brief filed with the nation’s top court argues New York’s restrictions on concealed-carry handgun permits impede the ability to carry a firearm outside the home and violate the Second American protections of the right to bear arms.
“The Second Amendment’s guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms cannot be second-guessed by legislators across the country who simply disagree with the choice the Framers (of the U.S. Constitution) made,” a brief from GOP senators argues. |

Attorney General Daniel Cameron joined a coalition of 26 states to defend the Second Amendment in a case that will be heard before the Supreme Court of the United States later this year. The states filed what is known as an amicus brief, or friend of the court brief, in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Corlett, urging the court to declare New York’s firearm licensure system unconstitutional. Cameron says this is a landmark Second Amendment case that the justices will hear during their next term. |

Less than a year into the Biden-Harris administration, there is already a sense that America is at a tipping point. At the fulcrum of this precarious balance is the Second Amendment.
If the administration gets its way, what makes America not just unique, but better, stronger and freer than any nation in the world will be subsumed into an undifferentiated globalist collective driven by elites who exist above and apart from the rules and deprivations they impose on others. |

Arguably, the most tangible right in the Bill of Rights is the Second Amendment:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Curious that 27 words have sparked so much conflict, but no matter what side of the debate you’re on, you can’t deny the impact of the right to bear arms on our culture.
There are tons of guns in popular music. In fact, after love and sex and cars, guns turn up in American songs with alarming frequency. But it’s something that dominates our culture, so it’s no surprise it dominates musical culture as well. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all — security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. — EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens] |
