The legal battle over Virginia’s firearm laws escalated rapidly this week as the Commonwealth and Attorney General Jay Jones filed an emergency appeal with the Supreme Court of Virginia. The state is aiming to overturn a newly issued preliminary injunction that temporarily halted enforcement of several gun and magazine restrictions across the state.
The move follows a recent ruling in the Lancaster Circuit Court for the case Crump v. Katz. In that decision, the court blocked the Virginia State Police from enforcing challenged bans on the acquisition, transfer, manufacture, purchase, importation, and public carry of certain commonly owned firearms and standard-capacity magazines while the overall lawsuit plays out. |

Washington State in March quietly crossed a line that may seem small on paper but feels significant to me—a longtime member of the 3D-printing community—in practice. With the passage and signing of House Bill 2320, the state didn’t just target untraceable firearms. It reached upstream into the ecosystem that makes them possible, regulating digital firearm files, restricting their distribution, and explicitly pulling 3D printers and CNC machines into the legal framework.

Under current rules, people who buy guns online have to pick them up at physical stores and submit to in-person background checks if they don’t already have a permit. The new rule would allow licensed firearms dealers to ship guns directly to in-state residents after online identity verification and a background check. There would also be a seven-day waiting period and local law enforcement would have to be notified of the purchase.
The ATF predicts that half of all gun buyers, nearly 3.3 million people a year, would order guns for home delivery, though industry leaders say that number could actually be far higher. The change could save consumers $103.7 million annually in travel and other processing costs, according to ATF. |

California has some of the nation's strictest firearm regulations, which state officials credit with helping produce one of the country's lowest gun death rates.
The Golden State's top elected Republican, however, appeared to agree with the DOJ that the law erodes Californians' rights.
"The Second Amendment applies to every American, even those living in California. Unfortunately, California Democrats find that fact inconvenient, so they ignore it in their efforts to erode and ultimately eliminate Californians' lawful access to firearms," said Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones, R-San Diego. |

Nothing connects all 700 years into one comprehensive (and cohesive) timeline of history. So ahead of Independence Day this year, I decided to build the article I'd been looking for myself.
The main point I hope you take away from this? Every single era of American history, and English history before it, features someone in power trying to disarm a group or individuals they were afraid of. And every single time, the people who managed to keep their arms are the ones who kept their freedom. That's not just a statement of posture. It's the actual, documented pattern running underneath 700 years of history. So let's take a walk through history and review the receipts. |

The very day Virginia’s now-delayed law banning common semi-automatic firearms and standard-capacity magazines was supposed to take effect, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit challenging the ban as unconstitutional under the Second Amendment.
The new ban, which was signed into law by Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger back on May 14, had already been blocked by preliminary injunctions in two different court challenges while court proceedings on the challenges move forward. |

California has responded to the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) lawsuit challenging the state’s Glock-style pistol ban by arguing that Glocks do not fall within the scope of the Second Amendment’s plain text.
The state recently enacted a ban on all pistols with a cruciform trigger bar, classifying these firearms as “machine gun convertible pistols.” California justifies the ban by arguing that such pistols can be modified with a machine gun conversion device (MCD), known as a “switch,” which transforms a semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic firearm. Many believe California is targeting Glock-style pistols because Glocks are the most popular handgun brand in the country. |

My brother spent over 20 years in the military before retiring as an 18 Bravo (Weapons Sergeant) in the Army Special Forces. My son graduated from West Point and flies Army helicopters. I graduated from Marine Corps OCS almost forty years ago. Three of us have carried weapons professionally, under oath, in service to this country. So, when constitutional law professors explain what the Second Amendment's militia clause really means — and invariably conclude it means you don't have an individual right to own a firearm — I listen carefully. Then I disagree. |

The Supreme Court’s ruling in Wolford v. Lopez and its decision to take up two cases involving modern semiautomatic firearms Tuesday follow a pattern in which states and localities hostile to the Second Amendment may be unintentionally assisting gun owners in securing their rights.
In Wolford v. Lopez, the high court struck down Hawaii’s “sensitive places” law that declared numerous locations off limits for carrying firearms, while two Virginia judges issued injunctions blocking the state’s ban on modern semiautomatic rifles and the Justice Department (DOJ) filed suits against Virginia and California over bans on firearms. |

President Trump affirmed his commitment to working with the National Rifle Association to enact National Right to Carry, a commonsense reform that would protect the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners across America.
No president in modern history has done more to defend the Second Amendment than Donald Trump. His administration has consistently recognized that the right to keep and bear arms is not a second-class right.
He recently signed legislation eliminating federal excise taxes on certain firearms and accessories regulated under the National Firearms Act, providing long-overdue relief to lawful gun owners. |

A Haubstadt man charged with three murders and one attempted murder has been found not guilty on all charges.
A jury reached the verdict Thursday after about three hours of deliberations following closing arguments in the trial of Patrick Waite.
Waite’s defense argued he acted in self-defense and said he had feared for his life for years. His attorney said jurors agreed and called it a clear self-defense case.
Prosecutors argued the evidence did not support that claim, pointing to the crime scene, physical evidence, and Waite’s 911 call.
Waite testified during the trial that he believed his life was in danger when the shooting happened. |

What started as an alleged robbery attempt in Garfield Park ended with one teenager shot and four teens in handcuffs, after Indianapolis police say the targeted man fired in self-defense. The wounded teen was treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound and later identified by investigators as part of the same group that allegedly tried to rob the man. All four teenagers are now facing preliminary robbery allegations as the case heads to prosecutors. |

Every year, I host an annual women’s range event at Windrock Shooting Range called Gal’s Day at the Range. It’s a one-day, all-inclusive ticketed event for women to demo hundreds of firearms, blow up Tannerite, shoot machine guns, and eat a yummy lunch, followed by a cool ice cream treat (or in reverse order because we can!).
They get the opportunity to shoot Ballistic Dummy Lab zombie heads, rabbits, and gel block targets. They get to blow up Tannerite and detonate Firebird Targets. Then the event concludes with one lucky raffle-ticket winner shooting a Ballistic Dummy Lab Gel Zombie Torso with a Ma Duece from a Humvee provided by Tennessee Silencer. Can you say Freedom? |

Talarico, who has attempted to backtrack on views regarding child sex changes and illegal immigration, defeated Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett during the March 3 Democratic primary for the party’s nomination for the United States Senate seat held by outgoing Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn. In the Sept. 1, 2020, online event hosted by South Asian American Voter Empowerment (SAAVE) Texas (which had less than 50 views as of 1:27 p.m. EDT Thursday), Talarico expressed support for restrictions on gun rights, including previously unreported comments in which he backed an unspecified “tiered” licensing requirement for gun owners. |

In a major victory for the right to keep and bear arms, the Washington Circuit Court on June 29 granted a statewide preliminary injunction preventing enforcement of Virginia’s newly enacted “assault firearm” and magazine bans, finding that the plaintiffs demonstrated a strong likelihood of success on their claim that the bans violate Article I, Section 13 of the Virginia Constitution.
The case, Santolla v. Katz, challenges legislation signed into law by Gov. Abigail Spanberger on May 14, 2026, that was scheduled to take effect on July 1. In a June 29 opinion letter, Judge Jeffrey L. Campbell concluded that the challenged laws likely violate the Virginia Constitution’s guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms. |

A proposal from the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to allow licensed gun dealers to ship firearms directly to eligible buyers' homes is emerging as one of the biggest potential changes to America's gun purchasing system in decades.
If adopted, the proposal would replace one of the most familiar steps in the buying process -- collecting a firearm from a licensed gun store after an in-person background check. Instead, eligible buyers could receive firearms at home a... |
