It’s no secret that we’re staunch proponents of pistol caliber carbines as home defense guns. They make excellent defenders of the domicile, thanks to their capacity, accuracy, and ability to add accessories. That said, they’re not just great for home defense. They work as vehicle guns, personal security firearms, or backpack guns for hiking and camping. We’ve shot and tested quite a few, and these are the best we've found. |

State Sen. Jim Runestad on Wednesday introduced legislation to protect Michigan residents from civil lawsuits when acting in self-defense to escape a violent riot.
“Regular people should not be punished for trying to protect themselves when out-of-control, violent agitators take over cities and start burning everything to the ground,” said Runestad, R-White Lake. “Sadly, we are seeing this kind of violent unrest more and more. Just look back at the riots in Los Angeles earlier this year, when vicious far-left agitators took over entire sections of public highways, disrupting traffic and threatening commuters.” |

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), in partnership with the Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL) and several individuals, has filed a lawsuit against the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, challenging its process for non-residents to obtain a License to Carry (LTC).
The lawsuit, titled Lawson v. Campbell, argues that the state’s permitting system imposes unconstitutional burdens and delays on out-of-state applicants, effectively creating a barrier to their right to self-defense. |

Gun control laws continue to fail.
And where gun control laws make the least amount of sense are on U.S. military installations ― policy that must change.
The world turned its attention recently to an active shooter incident in Manhattan. A depraved individual drove to the heart of New York City, walked calmly into a downtown high rise, killed five people and took his own life. No one knows why a bad guy took up arms and committed heinous acts of terror. |

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has revived a putative class action against the City of Los Angeles by parties arrested for possessing secreted firearms who are asserting Second Amendment claims based on having been prevented from obtaining concealed-carry permits under a strict municipal policy—subsequently rescinded in light of a 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision—of only issuing licenses to judges and police officers. |

“Thanks to the Massachusetts permitting regime, non-residents who travel to – or even through – the state for business or vacation must follow the extremely long permit process or risk arrest and prosecution,” said SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut. “The Second and Fourteenth Amendments clearly protect the right of ‘ordinary, law-abiding citizens’ to carry handguns for self-defense, and the state is violating the constitutional rights of non-residents with such a burdensome process to receive and renew a license to carry.” |

Two recent news stories from abroad illustrate just how close Americans came to descending into the same terminal decline as their international peers.
The first was in Nova Scotia, Canada, where the provincial government has prohibited people from entering any forest because of a prolonged drought increasing the risk of a forest fire. Given that Nova Scotia is essentially one big forest (nearly 75 percent of the whole province), this law amounts to an indefinite lockdown for its residents. One bold Canadian, Jeff Evely, tested the new law and received a fine of CAD$25,000 — far worse than the 200 hours of community service sentenced to an actual arsonist in another Canadian province two months ago. |

During the recent City Council meeting in Yucaipa, significant discussions emerged around two controversial assembly bills that could impact local safety and education.
The first bill, Assembly Bill 1333, focuses on self-defense laws and potential homicide charges related to defending oneself against violent criminals. Concerns were raised that the bill might have been recalled by its author due to widespread opposition, prompting a request for the city attorney to investigate its current status. |

On the evening of July 31, 2025, a busy summer night at Seattle’s Pier 55 turned chaotic when a confrontation between two strangers erupted into gunfire in front of dozens of tourists, families, and waterfront workers.
The shooter, later identified as 32-year-old Gregory William Timm, accused 68-year-old wheelchair-bound street musician Harold James Powell of “stolen valor” — falsely claiming military service. The exchange escalated as Timm took a veteran patch from Powell’s belongings, prompting Powell to arm himself with a knife and have a holstered airsoft pistol at his side. |

The Supreme Court’s upcoming term is already stocked with important cases on several hot-button issues, such as voting rights, campaign finance, transgender sports participation and more. The justices add cases to their docket on a rolling basis, and one of the next appeals could be another controversial one, involving guns and drugs.
The Justice Department is pressing the high court to take a Second Amendment case about a federal law that bars firearm possession by a person who “is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance.” The issue is due for consideration in the court’s Sept. 29 private conference. |

A corrupt federal clown court ruled on Thursday, August 7th, that the Second Amendment does not protect the right to own machine guns. The decision was made in the context of upholding the conviction of Jaquan Bridges, 22, who was arrested with a .40 caliber Glock handgun equipped with a device that enabled it to fire in full-auto.
Now, before we go making Bridges into some Second Amendment Martyr, let me say that this genius nearly crashed his vehicle into a Memphis police cruiser before opening fire on officers as he attempted to flee the scene, making him a grade A asshole. |

One of the most interesting new handguns has just received an upgrade, making it even more appealing for those who value a little quiet.
Ruger introduced its RXM series pistol last December, just before SHOT Show. A striker-fired 9mm that is compatible with most Gen 3 Glock 19 pattern parts but brings the modularity of a serialized Fire Control Insert to Magpul-produced grips, while being optics-ready with a Tritium front sight, it has a lot to offer for an MSRP of $499.
We tested it and tested it and found it to be not just another Glock clone but something truly innovative at an attractive price point. |

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms recently sent letters to North Carolina lawmakers urging them to override Governor Josh Stein’s veto of their permit less carry bill. North Carolina SB 50 was passed in both legislative chambers and Governor Stein usurped the will of the people by vetoing it.
Lawmakers who should be sympathetic to the passage of the bill either did not show up to vote, voted against the measure, or are not in favor of an override. This needs to change.
Letters were sent to House Representatives Ted Davis, Jr., Stephen M. Ross, Howard Penny, Jr., and Jimmy Dixon. |

The American Bar Association’s House of Delegates on Tuesday approved a resolution from the ABA’s Standing Committee on Gun Violence and the New York State Bar Association urging that gun owners who don’t report the theft or loss of their firearms face stiff civil or criminal penalties.
New York State Bar Association President Kathleen Sweet and Margaret Finerty, chair of the association’s Task Force on Mass Shootings and Assault Weapons, pressed the delegates in Toronto to adopt Resolution 608, which recommends that federal, state, local, territorial and tribal governments pass laws requiring that gun owners promptly report missing firearms. |

Rights are not gifts from government. They don’t come from documents – not a constitution, not even a bill of rights. You have rights because you exist.
But government has never been a big fan of that view. The ruling class prefers a population that thinks liberty is a privilege to be granted and withdrawn. Far too many people today play along – talking about their rights like they’re favors written into law.
