After the shots rang out, news of the dead bear spread quickly among the neighbors.
For the past few years, residents of Willow Bend in Fort Walton Beach say they’ve come to know the Florida black bears that often roam the neighborhood. There’s Burt, a hefty 500-pound male who is a regular on Ring cameras. And there’s Big Mama, often spotted running around with her cubs, Larry, Moe and Curly.
So when a state wildlife vehicle arrived in front of a home the night of June 24, after neighbors heard gunshots, their worries grew. |

In a split decision, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that it is not a crime under state law to possess a ghost gun without a serial number in most cases.
The court ruled the state law that prohibits the possession of an unserialized firearm does not apply if the gun is not federally required to have a serial number, which includes most ghost guns and heirloom firearms.

In a move to bring Minnesota's state gun laws into alignment with federal standards, Senator Ron Latz has expressed intentions to introduce a bill aimed at regulating so-called "ghost guns." These firearms, which can be manufactured at home with the help of 3D-printing technology, lack the serial numbers that traditionally aid in tracking and regulation. The decision to advance this legislation follows a recent Minnesota Supreme Court ruling that currently allows state residents to possess these untraceable weapons. |

An organization called Protect Minnesota is speaking out following the Minnesota Supreme Court’s decision, which states that it’s legal to carry a ghost gun without a serial number.
In its ruling, the court said the regulation ultimately rests with the state legislature. Protect Minnesota argues that this ruling will leave a critical gap in law enforcement’s ability to trace weapons tied to crime and violence. |

A shooting in the 300 block of Branch Lick Road that left one person dead may have been done in self-defense.
KCSO deputies were dispatched to the shooting around 12:20 p.m. Friday.
Joshua Lester with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect was already inside a house when the homeowner returned and confronted the intruder, who was carrying a knife and baseball bat, at the front door.
The intruder attacked the homeowner, with a scuffle ensuing in the front yard. The homeowner then pulled a firearm they were carrying and shot the man, killing him. |

A man seen on video shooting a father outside his daughter's graduation party was found not guilty by a jury Friday.
Philip Arning had been indicted on a murder charge in connection with the May 2023 shooting of Adam Tobias, whose family says they're outraged by the verdict.
"The moment I heard 'not guilty,' I was back at that night, back when I seen his body on the ground," the victim's daughter, Destiny Tobias, said.
"It broke us. It's like having to go hearing that he's dead again," the victim's wife, Neftaly Perez, said. |

The Ft. Devens Rifle & Pistol Club, Inc., is growing and it’s well deserved. The small gun club took on the United States Army over range access and won after a lengthy legal fight.
This week, several Club members returned to the ranges of Fort Devens for the first time in nearly five years.
There have been some changes, which the Club’s lawyers fought hard for during several pitched legal battles.
The Club must now pay only $16.98 per range outing—that’s the club’s total cost, not an individual fee. |

Rhode v. Bonta – the case that just delivered a major Second Amendment victory in the Ninth Circuit—has hit a temporary roadblock.
On July 24, 2025, a three-judge Ninth Circuit panel struck down California’s 2016 ammunition background check law and its ban on direct-to-home ammo shipments, calling them unconstitutional. The panel said the restrictions “meaningfully constrain” the right to keep and bear arms, violating the Second Amendment under the Bruen test.
The case was brought by Olympic shooting champion Kim Rhode, the California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA), Ammunition Depot, and other plaintiffs. Judge Sandra Ikuta, writing for the majority, stated: |

Fashion has always been a canvas for expression political, personal, and cultural. In today’s polarized world, Americans increasingly use clothing to communicate identity and values. Among the most talked-about trends in this sphere are Second Amendment shirts. These garments don’t just reflect a person’s wardrobe choice; they proclaim a stance. Whether worn at rallies, barbecues, or simply around town, these shirts serve as walking billboards for constitutional beliefs. But beyond the slogans and firearm graphics lies a deeper current of culture, pride, and debate that’s stitching itself into the American fashion narrative. |

Over half of Colorado kids say they could get a loaded gun from extended family, friends, purchase or theft. A third of kids say they can get a gun without adult permission. For researchers, one takeaway is that access is not just about what parents do. It’s about the whole community. John Ingold has more. |

I had a chance to catch up with Phil Journey at the NRA Annual Meetings back in April. He’s quite an interesting man with some long roots in the Second Amendment and with the NRA. He was on the list of four reform candidates last year in 2024. This year, of course, there were 28 reformers that people supported, many of whom got onto the NRA’s Board of Directors. He spends his time telling us about his collection of firearms, how he got into politics and ran for office, and some of the inside dirt on what was going on with NRA leadership. |

A Washington gun shop is taking its case against the state’s ban on the sale of high-capacity ammunition magazines to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Gator’s Custom Guns in Kelso filed a petition this week, asking the high court to review the state Supreme Court’s decision in May upholding the controversial law. Supporters of the restriction see it as an important step for quelling gun violence.
Walter Wentz, the Cowlitz County store’s owner, said Friday he hopes to convince the Supreme Court justices to “do their job and not accept all these lower courts waving their finger at them.” |

The Supreme Court’s Heller (2008), McDonald (2010) and Bruen (2022) decisions really screwed things up for the anti-liberty/gun left. Suddenly, the Second Amendment meant what it said and Americans had an individual right to keep and bear arms wherever they might be, with the exception of certain “sensitive” places like courthouses, jails and prisons. Even worse for Democrats, Americans not legally prohibited from gun ownership, like convicted felons or those adjudicated mentally ill, must be issued concealed carry licenses. |
