Growing frustration over repeated bandit attacks and a surge in kidnappings has pushed youths in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State to consider taking up arms in self-defence.
In a statement signed on Thursday by youth activist Bello Bala Shagari, an online meeting of Shagari youths expressed deep concern over what they described as the government’s failure to protect lives and property in their communities.
They lamented that bandit attacks, which have persisted for months, have displaced families, crippled farming activities, and left many residents living in fear. |

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti is appealing a ruling by a Gibson County Chancery Court that said two Tennessee gun laws were unconstitutional.
The laws prohibited carrying firearms in state parks and carrying a gun or club with the “intent to go armed” and use it for violence or aggression.
Gun Owners of America, Gun Owners Foundation and three Tennessee residents sued the state, saying the laws violated their right to bear arms.
Skrmetti said his office was asking the chancery court for a stay pending appeal because the court’s ruling was broad and went too far.

In a rebuke of the Justice Department, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) condemned reports that senior DOJ officials are weighing proposals to restrict the Second Amendment rights of transgender individuals.
The potential policy, reportedly a response to a recent shooting at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, has been labeled by the CCRKBA as a “reprehensible” and alarming overreach. |

On July 18, 2025, the Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association and the Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club sued the Delaware Department of Safety and the Delaware Superintendent of State Police. The lawsuit challenged a law passed in 2022, which made the possession and purchase of certain firearms by anyone between the ages of 18 and 21 illegal.
The lawsuit was heard in the Superior Court for the State of Delaware by Judge Reneta L. Green-Streett. On August 29, 2025, Judge Green-Streett granted the plaintiffs Motion for Summary Judgement and denied the Defendants’ Cross-Motion for Summary Judgement. |

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is sharpening his attacks on Prime Minister Mark Carney’s record on crime, arguing that the Liberal government has failed to address rising violence and is out of step with Canadians who feel unsafe in their own communities.
At a press conference Thursday, Poilievre said Carney had not delivered on promises to tackle public safety, calling his first five months in office “a Seinfeld summer, a big show about nothing.” |

The Tenth Circuit just reversed a lower court and reinstated charges against a man caught with a converted AM-15 and a Glock “switch.” The panel said machine guns aren’t “in common use” for self-defense, ergo… the Second Amendment does not protect them. That outcome isn’t our dream on the merits—but strategically, it’s a win because it keeps a risky machine-gun test case away from the current Supreme Court while we push the cleaner AR-15 and magazine cases. |

In the wake of the Minneapolis Catholic church shooting, senior Justice Department officials are weighing proposals to limit transgender people’s right to possess firearms, according to two officials familiar with the internal discussions.
The talks, described as preliminary in nature, appear to build on an idea that has gained some currency in conservative media since the Minneapolis shooting that killed two children and injured 21, most of them children, at Annunciation Catholic Church, an attack that police say was carried out by a 23-year-old transgender woman. |

Citing "two officials familiar with the internal discussions," CNN reports that "senior Justice Department officials are weighing proposals to limit transgender people's right to possess firearms." It says "Justice Department leadership is seriously considering whether it can use its rulemaking authority" to "declare that people who are transgender are mentally ill and can lose their Second Amendment rights to possess firearms."
This idea is so legally loony that it is hard to believe anyone trained in the law, let alone "senior Justice Department officials," would entertain it. But the New York Post says it has independently confirmed the story, citing "sources familiar with the talks." |

Newsweek, citing data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive, calculated that prior to the Minneapolis shooting, transgender people only accounted for 0.07% of the mass shootings recorded since 2018. With Westman factored in, Newsweek notes, the rate of transgender mass shooters still sits around 0.1%.
The Violence Project — which has a stricter definition of "mass shooting" than the Gun Violence Archive, looking only for shootings where four or more people were killed in public — records just one transgender mass shooter in all of its data dating back to 1966. |

The pristine wilderness of Colorado’s Pike National Forest has become the unlikely stage of a fierce Second Amendment battle after federal officials imposed sweeping restrictions on recreational shooting across nearly three-quarters of the 1.1-million-acre forest.
The decision, which was finalized in January 2025, has ignited a constitutional firestorm that pits Second Amendment advocates against federal land managers in what many view as a critical moment for gun rights on public lands.
On January 17, 2025, Forest Supervisor Ryan Nehl signed the final Decision Notice for the Integrated Management of Target Shooting Project, effectively closing over 800,000 acres of Pike National Forest to dispersed recreational shooting. |

The initiative has enabled D.C. residents to book next-day appointments to register firearms with the Metropolitan Police Department, while also offering walk-in appointments. This represents a significant change from the previous system, which reportedly required applicants to wait up to four months for an appointment.
"No law-abiding citizen should have to wait months before he or she can register their firearms, or obtain a concealed carry permit," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. He added that the permitting process should take no more than a few days, calling "purposeful foot-dragging by anti-gun-rights bureaucrats" absurd and noting that it has "been known to cost lives." |

Figures for likely firearm sales in the country last month resurged to break the 1 million benchmark.
Passing the seven-digit threshold is key, as July 2025 saw gun sales dive below that mark for the first time in 71 months.
The data comes from the trade group for the firearms industry, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which crunched the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System's reports for August 2025. According to NSSF, the adjusted figure of 1,091,342 checks done for likely sales, while a decrease of 9.9 percent compared to the August 2024 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1, 210,995, it still surpasses the 978,731 figure for July 2025. |

The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved an ordinance that bans licensed concealed guns in certain County Buildings.
Commissioner Shannon Singleton and Commissioner Julia Brim-Edwards brought forward the ordinance as the primary sponsors, which was approved by the Board today.
“The presence of firearms in public buildings, even when carried by individuals with a concealed handgun license can undermine trust and feelings of safety, as well as increase the risk of accidental discharge, intimidation, or escalation during conflicts,” said Commissioner Singleton. |

Senior Justice Department officials have held internal deliberations in recent days over potentially issuing a rule that could restrict transgender individuals from being able to own firearms, two officials familiar with the discussions confirmed Thursday to ABC News.
The policy discussions, which are believed to be in their early stages and driven in part by chatter in right-wing media, follow last week's Minneapolis Catholic church shooting that the FBI has said was carried out by a transgender woman. |

A debate over the rights of gun owners between New Hampshire and Massachusetts could reach the U.S. Supreme Court.
"This isn't just a niche gun rights case. It's about preserving the everyday ability of ordinary Americans to travel safely with a means of personal protection. It's something that the founders explicitly intended," said Senior Assistant Attorney General Brandon Chase.
Twenty-four other states are speaking up in support of New Hampshire.
The dispute stems from the 2022 arrest of a New Hampshire man in Massachusetts. He was charged after voluntarily telling a police officer he was carrying a gun, even though he did not have a Massachusetts license to carry. |

Now, the Denver-based 10th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled similarly in an Oklahoma case, United States v. Harrison, saying the sweeping gun ban on marijuana users violates the Second Amendment. However, the court remanded the case back to the district court to answer some questions concerning whether the government can prove non-intoxicated marijuana users “pose a risk.”
The case stems from Lawton resident Jared Harrison’s 2022 arrest after being pulled over for running a red light. Officers searching Harrison’s vehicle found a loaded revolver, marijuana residue, marijuana cigarettes and THC gummies. While Oklahoma has a liberal medical marijuana law, Harrison did not have a medical card. |
